Default battery tender question

Hello
while looking for suggestions on a battery tender I came across this, from a fellow Jag Fourms member...curious does his statement still stands true? just purchased battery tender for the 13’XKR and don’t want to install it incorrectly.

Copied a snippet Of his statement and pasted it down below

Battery Voltage and State of Charge

Number 14 in this thread above ^^^
suggestion
One of the techs on this site told me (and I am now telling you all) DO NOT install the ground side of the tender cable directly onto the negative (-) post of the battery. Instead, wire it to the spare tire hold down post. At first I went right to the ground side of the battery and that somehow "confused" the ECM into thinking the battery was low when it was indeed fully charged

thanks in advance

Correct on the 5.0L cars the negative terminal has a "battery monitor" which communicated battery condition to the ECU . There are other locations on the rack to the right of the battery where you can ground the neg. wire of the charger.

thank you 👍
Couple more questions:
How long would it take with (battery tender attached to negative terminal) before it messes with the ECU?
and is it possible to reset the ECU??
Thanks again
happy new year

On my last 2 XKR's (2011 XKR 175, and 2013 XKR) I had the negative from the charger connected to the negative of the battery because I never knew any better. I never had a problem. On my 2014 XKR, which I currently have, I connected it to the cross bar by the battery. Why invite a problem when others have experienced problems. If you have yours connected to the battery simply change it.

I don't believe it will damage the ECU but it will change the charging rate . So just remove it and put it in a new ground location.

YES - here's the recommended negative connection location from the Jaguar Fitting Instructions:

Also, the 5.0 cars are 'supposed' to have a Battery Monitor Reset accomplished with SDD when a battery is replaced.
