Battery voltage
As we all know by now jaguars do not work well with battery's they constantly throw up problems , so a friend has just bought a brand new battery and I took a reading of 12.5 volts from it . It is now on charge (full) overnite . After doing some research it is suggested that the new battery should be fully charged before installing, google suggest new battery should be over 14 volts , I am only a mere plumber. Sudgestions welcome guy on a boat said to me once we have a leak, I shouted man overboard plumbers and children first

Mine typically sits at 12.6-12.8v
When I put on a CTEK charger (as I did at 7am this morning) two hours later it had risen to 14.2v, As V8 has said that's a surface charge. When I drive it later for around 40 miles I expect it to drop to around 13v. The voltage reported by my tracker is exactly the same as I get from multimeter.
If any of my batteries don't come up that quickly in a couple of hours then I'd consider scrapping it if a 'recon charge' doesn't restore its responsiveness.

Hi,
Being a newby Jaguar owner I was quite concerned after reading about the battery problems/issues particularly after cars being stored, so I thought to share my recent experience.
I stored my MY06 XK convertible for 103 days during New Zealand's late spring/early summer with no CETEK, start ups etc. The battery voltage read at the extended posts in the boot/trunk 11.7V with lid open, so I did not attempt to start the car. I have a 12AmpHour battery booster/jumpstarter that read 13.6V open circuit. After connecting to the extended posts for about 7-8 minutes the "combined voltage" was 12.1V. The car then started first time!
I was very pleased with that as there was no power at the storage facility.
