Which is the best looking model year/variant of the XK?
With all of the refreshes, updates and special editions that exist for the X150, I've often wondered which ones people think look best.
What do you think? Please post photos to argue your case!
I used to think the latest refresh looked best, but I feel like something is missing from the shape of the front headlights, at least from certain angles. From the front, the 2007-2009 XKR looks just sublime to me, especially the part in the photo below (circled in red).
IMO, the 2010-2011 XK/XKR looks too gilly, and it has a strange bump underneath the headlight that sort of interferes with the overall look.
For the rear, I think the later models with the LEDs probably looks better, but the 2007-2009 looks appropriate for the time period.
It is pretty amazing how fresh they've been able to keep the X150 looking through the years without changing hardly any of the bodywork! I think it's a beautiful modern design that is actually timeless--it really does look better and better as time goes by.

I don't like the 10-11 model's 'cheek pouches', but they are much less prominent when the grilles in them are black rather than chrome, particularly on a dark-coloured car. The most recent update looks the most 'wicked', with its slimmer headlights, but I'm happy enough with my 2010 model:

As is historic in these type questions, the answer will always be lean predominantly towards the model the poster owns. I'm no exception, as I prefer the first generation front end over others. I think it has a clean grace about it whereas later versions are trying to pretend to fit in the EVO and WRX "look at all my slots, gills, humps and bumps so I must be cool" crowd.
This isn't meant as a slam to owners as I hope to step to a second gen someday as well, I just thing Jag designers took an odd step sideways from "clean and elegant" in an attempt to draw the gaze of a more youthful rice raised audience.
That said, I still love the newer LED taillights as the first gen are far from eye appealing...
my 2 cents

I prefer the shape of the 2012 headlights (and would whether they had LEDs or not). They look a little more aggressive, or maybe faster. But I would have paid a half again on the price of my car for the 2012 over the 2011, and it was the only difference which I'd never see from inside, so I'm happy. All of them are gorgeous, you would barely know the difference between years unless you owned one, or they were next to each other.

The Jaguar leaper badge on the trunk lid only started in MY2012 and beyond.
I have a very good source for the OEM sized Jaguar leaper badge and keep some extras in my stock, just in case any other pre-2012 Jaguar XK/XKR owners might like to add one to the rear trunk lid.
I have them available for $38.00 + $2.00 and are ready to mail out. Many pre-2012 members here on the forum have already bought the leaper badge from me, and have placed on their cars.
In my opinion, the Jaguar leaper badge adds a real touch of class to the Jaguar XK/XKR. I get lots of compliments on the XKR and the Jaguar badge on the rear. It's a great addition to signify the brand at such a low cost to the owner.

I sold my 2011 XKR 175 and bought a 2013 XKR for it's updated look and better performance (dynamic pack and performance exhaust). I was going to get an XKR-S but could not justify the price difference with the same performance options available as options on the XKR except for the engine tune. I also found the XKR-S a little over the top on looks at the time but I'm ok with it now. I like modern looking cars and like the new headlights of the 2012-on models. Black was also my preferred color.

I'm in love with my 2010 and think it is the best looking - because as others have mentioned; It's mine. It's what I could comfortably afford at the time and I think it's the best since it's mine. In the time I've owned it - My fiancee' and I have already had quite a few adventures and memorable trips in it.

The 1st generation xkr front end is the worst iteration of the front. I am indifferent to the other changes. Horizontal or vertical gills go with the car. I like all the headlight designs.
In general, I have a sweet spot for the original design of any car, but the XK was tastefully jazzed up all the way through the XKRS.
