Only giveaway from pre 2012 ....viewing from the rear is the Jaguar leaper badge on the trunk lid. Pre 2012....no leaper...2012 and beyond leaper badge. And the rear light display.

Otherwise only from the front and the fog light area can I really tell what years these cars are.

I let someone talk me into blacking out all my beautiful chrome, and I will say it helped the look of the vertical vents on the front.

I agree the rear jaguar leper badge adds another touch of class to an already classy car. I have added them to both my 09 convert and 10 coupe!

I prefer the 2012+ XKR models as they have the modern lights, functional and very tasteful integrated front fascia ducts, horizontal side vent, and doesn't have the dated fog lights of the 07-09.

The appeal of the XKR to me is in its ability to marry classic Jaguar styling with high performance. That delicate relationship is unfortunately completely lost with the XKRS-GT.

The side vents (front fenders) on the xk changed sometime between 08 (vertical) 12 (horizontal). I'm not sure about the xkr, but I like the horizontal side vents better than the vertical vents. that is one of the main reasons I think the 12 is a cleaner design.

no idea.... it the 1 thing that made me go with the jaguar XKR as an actual car selection. I do not care for the 11 and 12 darker red.

I bought a saleen extreme mustang and it was cherry red. I wanted "red!" but when I bought that car I didnt get to pick the color. it is you get what we give you. 100 of em and you got what they gave you!

I like the purer colors. That is, none of that flecked paint. Ebony, British Racing Green, Salsa Red are all great examples!

What non-metallic colors are left on the current XKs? French Racing Blue? Ebony?

British Racing Green is listed as Metallic Xirallic in the 2014 brochure so that looks like it leaves Ebony, Polaris White and French Racing Blue

As regards the front, I personally prefer (by decreassing order):
-2012 front (but without chrome around the side vents)
-2009-2010 XK: round fog lights, without grids under the fog light (I hate the grids under the fog light of the 2009-2010 XKR)
==> 2009-2010 XK would be my first choice if it had DRL... and existed on XKR! I love its round and smooth shape.

Then far behind:
-2010-2011 XKR (with the bumps on the side vents)

And far-far-far-far behind:
-2009-2010 XKR (with grids under the fog light)

I found once a 2009 XKR without grids under the fog lights, but it was an italian car (maybe they are different over there???)

As regards the back, it would be 2010-2014, without hesitation (because of the leds)

I personally like all the XK from 2006 on. But, the newest ones look the best as they feature more detailed touches. Which i think translates to a car that is more confident, if that makes sense.

Not a fan of the leaper. When did Puma start making cars? I wish they'd use a round growler emblem instead.

My wife's major disappointment when I brought home my 2010 XKR coupe was that it didn't have the hood Leaper ala 350 XJ series. I like it a lot on those sedans, even the XJR but it seems very out of place on the XK series to me. I might go for the rear leaper but its not the same has having a pre 2009 XJ with the hood leaper.

Yesterday I saw a 2007-ish model XK, black, with a blacked out rear plinth and a chrome leaper. It looked kind of nice to reverse these two accents, more modern. It was driving by, so I wish I had a chance to look at it more closely. I'd never seen the car before and I don't know of any other Mercer Islanders on the forum. Did it belong to any one?

Jaguar was founded before Puma.

Chrome leaper in the back or on the front?

The Arden pic is confirmation that the leaper does not belong on the hood of an XK or XKR.

It's like a clown nose.

This one I referred to was on the back. The logo leaper, and it was chrome while the rest of the chrome on the rear end had been blacked out.
