Question Black or Chrome Grill

I have an '07 Seafrost Green Coupe. Which do you think would look better the OEM Chrome or OEM black grill. Is the black actually wire that anodized or something?

I plan to leave the bottom as-is. It's hard for me to imagine the seafrost green with the chomre grill. Does anyone have a picture of this combo?

Personally, I'm a fan of less chrome in most situations. A tiny bit here or there is fine, but less is more in Chrome's case.

I personally prefer to see contrasts between various parts of a car. For me contrasts bring out the styling and design details. So, I have a Emerald Fire green XK, that is really a fairly dark green and I think the chrome grill provides for a better contrast than the original black grill. With your light frost colored car, the black should provide good contrasts, and without actually seeing both, I would guess that is what I would prefer.

If you're willing to put out the costs for the chromed Mina screen, you can see it by overlaying the factory black grill with the Mina. That way you can view and decide which you like. The Mina installs right over the factory screen, or if you prefer the factory grill after all, you can return the Mina.

I am leaning towards the black OEM wire grill. Does anyone have it installed? Is it painted or anodized metal?

Do you know if I can replaced the "winged growler" with the regular round one on my stock grill without issue? Will there be marks from the original?

Have you considered having your grill painted to match your cars color?

The light color Seafrost and Black grill would be an interesting look, I don't think I'd personally go for that. I'm probably in a small minority, but to me the black grills look good on black cars, but not much else.

I never considered painting the grill to match. Right now the grill is black plastic. I'll take a picture this weekend for rerference. I don't think the black looks bad at all and the metal should give it a more upscale befitting look. Before I got the car, I was set on chrome like I had on my VDP (Mina Inserts that worked out well), but now I am not so sure.

yes it is and I plan to leave it that way. I saw a red xk with oem grill and stock black bottom that I thought was sharp, but that was on a red car...

In that case an upper black grill might look pretty good.

I really liked the bottom half of the XK and front end of the XK better than XKR.

Does anyone have some good picture of the black OEM grill? Can't get a sense of what it really looks like up close.

I no longer have a picture of my original black screen but, you may try to look at some "for sale" websites, such as cars.com, and certainly you should find a good number front grill pictures for 07-09 XKs. Most of them will be black.

With the black metal screen or the black plastic one? I have the black plastic one already.

Tag along grill question if I may...
Insurance is replacing my OEM grill due to damage. I have asked if I can pay the difference for the OEM wire grill, and was told yes.

With a silver XK I was thinking to just go chrome... yes/no?

Also. a search on the forum shows the upper as "Chrome Upper Mesh Grille p/n C2P9190" but I need the badge mount, and badge as well, correct (my 07 has the winged emblem)? Anyone have numbers for those?

Thanks all (and especially to mosesbotbol for letting me tag along with his question)

Vince

Still not sir if black would go ok on a silver car, but I find the prospect intriguing... anyone have thoughts for me?

I am thinking of going black (no jokes required), I think it'll match the bottom and contrast the paint better than chrome for the front. There's still chrome around the growler to bring it together.

Understood, but black on Green is a little less contrast and should look good... I think I would like black on Silver, but leave the lower opening alone so it joins the black tone there....

Wish this forum had better pictures area, and that folks would stop using fuzzy cell phones as a camera....
