EDIT: I guess this sort of answers my question. There is OEM "Mahle" and there is "Jaguar Standard".

Jaguar, like any other car marque may change the manufacturer of service items every 2-3yrs ( or when the contract expires).
It's not to say that the new manfacturers product is superior, only that it does the job and can be bought at a competitive price.
In my Audi I remember taking it to an indy who also sold nuts bolts and fastenings by weight. I took along a fram CA192016. He examined it comparing to an OEM one
1) Same colour and filter medium
2) Same screw hole positions
3) Same number of pleats
4) Exactly the same weight in grams
He concluded it was exactly the same filter but without the little silver rings stamped on the OEM. The difference was the price as it was a 6th of one from a dealer.
Yes I can/have bought blueprint filters for my XKR, however at first service (in my ownership) it was discovered it had k&ns in good condition. So for the second service I had a brand new set of k&ns ready to slot in and recovered the old ones which I cleaned and reoiled.
With regards to oil filters if you can buy them at a fraction of the cost, buy multiples and change more often (say 3k miles 4 months) that way your engine oil will by default be cleaner. Also you can check the condition of them.and decide for yourself whether to stick with them or throw them in the bin![Smile](https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/images/smilies/smile.gif)
