Blackstone oil analysis on hard driven XKR
Happy Thanksgiving everyone!
We got the longest rain of the year so far in San Diego, lots of flooding . Don't want to get out of the house at all, so I thought I'd post my first Oil Analysis I got recently. Reasoning behind this is my car is pushing a bit more power and is driven harder than usual with now 92k miles , so I thought I'd check just o make sure all was well.
So oil has only 1000mi on it, 5w30 Castrol GTX , but this is with around a dozen drag racing runs and probably 40 or more 0-60 WOT testing runs.
Results apear to be better than expected for running the car hard . Wear is not any more elevated to a car that's driven lightly .
Post your results to compare

I thought approved oil was a non- synthetic Castrol 5w-30. If your talking about Castrol Tatanium Synthetic , it's only a few bucks more , only reason I haven't been using it is because non-synthetic I thought what was recommended

What I thought was wierd when I changed my wife's car with Castrol synthetic 5w30 and my car with standard Castrol GTX 5w30 the synthetic definitely apeared thicker which I though should have been the other way around ...

Sorry for the confusion, my car is an F-type, it uses the same supercharged AJ engine as later XKRs. For me, recommended oil is 0W-20 Castrol Edge Professional, it has additives aimed at keeping chain wear and sludge from DI (direct injection) in check. With DI and V-configuration of the engine both chain and intake sludge are serious issues that can be largely mitigated by quality engine oil and frequent oil changes. Consequently, I use recommended oil and do more frequent oil changes than maintenance schedule prescribes. Having dealt with chain issues on other cars, doubling cost of oil changes over decade will still be cheaper than repairs.
Personally, I am more of an old-school person - I'd add zinc (ZDDP) in cases where there is metal on metal wear. However, I am not going to second-guess JLR engineers unless there is a reason to. Plus, oil analysis doesn't definitively indicate such wear.
