Default blown power steering pump

Well, as i needed 2 new rear tyres, thought it might be fun to see if I could do a few donuts. Nothing crazy, just a little sideways fun. After 2 attempts the steering went stiff and a whining noise as i turned the wheel. Checked the power steering resevior after and the fluid was very mucky looking and some metal flakes in it as well, not a good sign. Got a quote from Jaguar €680 for new pump! I have sourced one on ebay for €100 and hopefully this will work ok.
Anyone else ever try donuts or burnouts or is this a bad idea in these cars.
I know it is a bit childish but I probably watch too much Top Gear and it is a bad influence.

Price one pays for having a bit of fun …… Not sure how old your car is or if the p.s. fluid was ever changed. But, the evidence of some metal flakes would more than likely mean that you pulling some 'donuts' was not the primary cause of your steering pump issue. If the Ebay pump is used, and its from a wrecking yard, I would ensure you have some type of 90day warranty on it in case its also on its last legs.

Its an 07 xkr and I think you are right about the pump being bad beforhand. The fluids didnt turn mucky over night. Worth checking and flushing now and again.

The xkr should be able to do sideways without a second thought. it's hard, but shouldn't be anything a well kept car can't handle.

You can try flushing the fluid, but if metal flakes are present, that is an indication of a faulty pump. There is also the possibility of having a failing steering rack if the centre or side piston seal(s) has perished.
