In which case use a WMA1000 in the iPod input, and you have bluetooth audio streaming....

Regards the phone book/contacts list, there's more at play than just the bluetooth module, I reckon the head unit has to support this stuff too. Prior to my current 5.0 XKR I had a 2008 4.2 XKR, when I got my last phone (Nexus 5X) it wouldn't pair with the car at all. I swapped out the bluetooth module for one of the latest ones and the phone then worked and I got the battery and signal strength icons on the display, also had the Last 10 calls lists but still no access to the contacts. Now on the 5.0 car I get all of that plus the Names list. My 5.0 car is a fairly early example (late 2009 UK model) and I haven't checked so I'm guessing here but I reckon the bluetooth module is a version or two older than the one I installed in my old car.
Again, probably not enough data to draw a proper conclusion but I did find phone functionality with the 4.2 and a much later bluetooth module to be a bit flaky sometimes. A few times per week I'd start the car, the phone would pair and "dock" with the car and then almost immediately the car would say the phone had not connected and I had to hit the retry (or similar) button to sort it out. No such issue with the 5.0.
Trading up from a 4.2 to a 5.0 was probably not the most efficient way to resolve the issue but it does come with certain other benefits.

After much investigation of potential battery issues and having the battery replaced under warranty, I determined that the bluetooth module was defective.
The 1st photo is the screen the defective unit gave me with nothing happening when the YES button is pushed. The module that was defective was # 6W83-10D893-AF.
Removing the three connectors is simple once you know the tricks. The 2d and 3d photos are the large gray connector showing the unlock lever closed and than open. The middle connector for the fiber optics was easy - just press the unlock tab on the side. The yellow connector was difficult until I was able to remove the unit and see the part that needs to be pressed. It is the 4th photo.
The replacement module was from a 2012 # 9W83-10F845-AA and is shown in the 5th photo.
The screen for the new module is the 6th photo and like others it now has a battery indicator and a signal strength indicator. I am using and Iphone 5.

That's even more freaky. One thing I will say regards Android, the bluetooth support is a holy mess. I have other bluetooth things I use with Android phones and tablets and most of them behave weird with some or all of the devices, yet most play nice with a Windows PC or an Apple iOS or OS X device. Often I'd find, when a new Android release started to hit my devices, that some or all of the BT gadgets would stop working properly too.
EDIT to add - do I not remember rightly, you told me you swapped out your touch screen system in your car for a later one too? Could be newer than the one I had in my old 2008 4.2?

Oh good catch. I did install an XF head unit in my car and flashed it to 09 XK. That was after updating the BT unit but the Samsung Galaxy S8 plus is reading the newer head unit. I agree with you the BT is a funky technology.

Find where the battery is in the trunk compartment up against the back seat. You have to undo 4 screws and remove a cover and then the ledge where the battery is on the left has the modules on the same ledge to the right. In the past I've found it easy to work in that area by putting my convertible top halfway (keep the motor running or you will lose hydraulics on the top and it will fall closed) so I can reach in and remove the 4 screws and the cover. Otherwise, you go in through the trunk and work on it that way. Hope you are flexible.

Yes you have my tuto (sorry is french) . On the 14 pin grey connector behind radio you have three pins for input audio.
You buy a bluetooth module, you connect it on 12V and audio on grey connector.
It"s necessary activate AUX on you car with SDD.
After you have music in streaming !!
See my tuto HERE

I just bought a 9W83-10F845-AA off eBay for $300. Took about 90 minutes to swap (mostly due to my fat fingers having issues getting to bolts). Seems to have resolved the no response I was getting from my original 6W83-10D893-AE.
Using my iPhone7, no phonebook or battery meter, but I do get signal strength. Most importantly, I can answer an incoming call now.

Much thanks for any guidance...and hope you are well.

Hello There. Great, love the forum for chaps like you. thank you for this information. I have been searching to find out of a later model BTM will work. You are confirming it does and the screen interface is improved as well on the 2012 module.
So, will be on the hunt now for a 2012 BTM. Many thanks. Rick.
