Default Boot/Trunk Closing

It takes more pressure than it should to get my boot lid to latch closed. And now I've just had the first occasion where the car wouldn't lock and it turned out the boot wasn't fully latched. The actual alignment of the boot lid looks good, so I'm thinking the latch to striker distance needs to be adjusted.

I've looked at other threads and resources but I'm still uncertain as to whether I should be looking to unscrew and move the striker up slightly, or unscrew and move the latch down slightly. Adjusting the striker looks like the easiest and least intrusive route to follow.

On 8/1/2023, my indie technician replaced the defective latch assembly in the trunk lid of my 2009 XKR Portfolio convertible. I tried everything I could think of to get the lid to latch closed and nothing worked. If the trunk doesn't latch closed, the doors won't lock.

The latch and the striker are not adjustable. If you can't get it to latch, you probably need to replace it. Note that it's a Ford part with many applications.

I bought a used latch mechanism on Ebay for $45 delivered and paid my indie $65 to install it. It works, and all's well that ends well.

@Stuart S I was afraid I'd hear "not adjustable". My boot does latch. It just needs a bit of pressure. I'm actually considering the service manual procedure before replacing anything. This is to remove the striker and gas struts, loosen the hinge bolts and adjust the lid to get 3.5mm clearance all round between the lid and the bodywork. At the moment, there is nearly 6mm clearance at the back of the boot lid. In the meantime I've sprayed some lubricant up it to see if that makes things easier.

Good luck with adjusting the latch and striker!
