If anyone has any advice on how this works, or if it has a battery build in that needs charging first? I thought I plug it into the adapter and it would power up?
PS: engine was running
sounds like your issue is with the adapter cable or you may have too many BT devices connected when in the car. Depending on your phone and OS, iOS you can connect 2 BT devices at once IIRC. With Android and maybe this changed over time, you can connect with more than one device but have to go into settings and make some changes.
Most likely it is the adapter cable you're using in the car. Much has been written on it in this thread and others.

Hi, have you connected the device to the iPod socket like this?

No, I plugged it directly into the socket. I have the cable, but thought there is a 18 pin adapter on the cable.
I need to double check tomorrow.
As my adaptor / Bovee plugs directly into the socket, see pictures here at Amazon which are identical:

Yes. Try another cable, from the docking station to the Bovee. With ignition on or car running, you should see rapid flashing on your Bovee until is connects, then solid blue light. I presume you have selected iPod on the touchscreen. I don't recall if that matters but I don't think it does. The docking station is fed from the Portable Audio Unit in the trunk, also referred to as the Auxiliary USB Unit (AUU) in the boot. That device is connected to the MOST network and would throw a code is broken but not if the cable is bad.
I'm assuming you checked the fuse for power to the unit. F21 in the Auxiliary Junction Box.

Thanks guys. Got it working.
Had to connect a mini USB to the BT device so it’s powered on. I assume those two are on one fuse?
Connection works.
Now I could find a fader to move the music more into the back of the car but hey, 1st world problems. It works!

Pic attached.
Cant imagine it draining much on the battery and a ‘double lock’ should kill that power anyway.

BT connected and powered via micro USB cable from the port next to it.

There IS a Fader in the Sound Settings inside the TSD.

Before someone gets led down the wrong path, that is not a BOVEE WMA1000 normally recommended on this forum. That looks to be a knockoff or competitor product? But it works and that is what matters, with the additional requirement of USB power as you ascertained.

For those of us with the Jaguar IPOD cable in the car all you do is buy the WMA1000, this has just one port on the device, 30 pin lightning. And it powers from the single cable like pictured above.

I’ll say I’ve used the Bovee in my XKR and a GranTurismo specific one in my Maserati (in both cars attached to factory 30 pin iPod cables). What’s great? It’s uneventful. I installed it, synced with the phone and then proceeded to just have it work from then on, the end.

i messed with alternatives and for the $85 the Bovee was for each car, it’s worth it just not having to screw with it. It just works and that’s high praise. Doesn’t mean This other stuff doesn’t but hey, I work in IT for automation and hate bringing Work home with me.

Got the Bovee. However I had to connect a micro USB cable as well to power it. And there is, sometimes, a crackling noise. I wonder if it’s the Bovee or more likely the old cable/ iPod connector ? Anyone else got those problems?
XK 2009 Portfolio

any advice whether it is dust or cable or what the issues could be?

Hi @ballueder . What you have pictured in post #25 isn't a Bovee as tampamark pointed out.. The Bovee wma 1000 operates fully off of the 30 pin iPod connector. There isn't a separate USB mini to power it. Sorry not of much help with the one you have.

What an embarrassing question for me to ask. I thought it bought a Bovee but didn’t. WTF.
just ordered the original one. See if it is better than the one I have and then return the old one. Thank Amazon for customer service.

at least for anyone searching the Gitank seems to work but has a crackling noise and doesn’t power through the iPod connector.

i am new to the XK but I will learn. I promise.

I would suggest you put in your iphone library the 12 minute silent track called “A a a a very good song” … why? read on.

If you turn off the car while playing tunes from the Aux input, the car will automatically start playing from that input when you turn it back on. If you were playing a playlist and haven’t used the phone in the interim, no problem…it will continue where it left off. But it won’t continue where it left off if the iphone has been used to play content while the car was off … any previous playlist will be lost if, e.g., you watch a YouTube video or queue up something in a browser window between car rides. If you do that, the car can’t continue where it was … and the car goes into a failover mode and automatically plays the tracks in the library in alphabetical order … you will get the alphabetically first track in your library, every time you start the car, which can be very tiring. I have heard the start of “A Punk” by Vampire Weekend about 1000 times.

“A a a a very good song” is named that way so the track it will be alphabetically the very first in you library. The 12 minutes of silence gives you plenty of time to decide what you really want to play.

Today the original Bovee 1000 arrived.
Clearer sound
no additional power needed
no crackling noise

Refund on its way for the cheaper one (£20 less .... not worth saving for and didn't do it deliberately).

Bovee rules I'd say.
