Default Bulk Oil

I went to Jaguar today for my yearly oil change and requested Castrol Synthetic. On the invoice it reads: 8 55259 5W-20 Bulk Oil. All the previous work orders from the first owner at his PA Jaguar dealerhsip show Castrol Synthetic at the oil changes. How do I know I got the Castrol Synthetic?

Checked the website you got, 55259 Castrol EDGE Professional OE synthetic. They should improve their invoices to reflect that.

Thanks for the info. Where did you get the info?

Yes I see it. I guess the tech writes up the work sheet and makes important omissions. Well, hopefully I did get the good stuff. I was going to bring my own Mobil 1 but it would have been a wash with Jaguar labor. Next time I go to my independent and save some money. Thanks again.

What was the cost to have the oil and filter changed at the dealer if you don't mind sharing the info?

Did they have a breakdown for the oil, filter and labor or just one charge?

Thanks.

The owner's manual specifies :

Use only 5W-20 engine oil, meeting
specification WSS M2C925-A.

I'm not entirely sure that Mobil 1 meets that spec.

Thanks.

It came to a whopping $150 and change. I see $9.09 per quart X 8 for $72.72 for the oil and an outstanding price of $44.36 for a filter? Labor was $29.30 The only reason I went for it, was because I decided on a brake fluid flush as well. I didn't want to give the brake flush to my independent shop and decided to just bite the bullet this time for the oil change. I'm starting an extended warranty and wanted to make sure any required services were taken care of.

The Castrol Edge Synthetic 5w20 will still do the job just fine.
Just as well as the K&N oil Filter.

These are high quality oil lubricants and the K&N oil filters are also high quality.

Buying a bulk oil that is pumped from a 55 gallon drum, there is NO way to verify what you are actually getting. The only verfication is what is printed on a receipt.

I am sure that if someone wrote to or called Castrol, they would state this Castrol 5w20 Edge Synthetic oil from Walmart or any other quality automotive parts supplier is an oil that can be used in the Jaguar brand without any problems being reported.

WSS-M2C945-A spec replace the WSS-M2C925-A for motor oil 5w/20

If anyone doubts this, show me a report or documentation from Castrol that shows or states that this oil should not be used.

I would agree with you with regards to not knowing what you are getting from a 50 gallon drum, but then you can also say that if you give them the containers of oil you purchased, unless you see them pour it from your container, who knows if they are actually using it. There comes a point where we have to trust someone, or life becomes too difficult. When I mentioned and independent shop I was talking about my local mechanic that I've known for years for his trust and integrity. I would trust him 100% and could bring the oil and filter with total confidence. In addition, I personally would only use the factory filter, just in case there are any claims down the road where the warranty company is looking for any kind of loophole.
