I'm not looking to try and sue and or get any portion of the money back. I don't recommend what I did to anyone else. I've been buying, driving and selling my cars for 25 years. I was buying high mileage cars when many thought when the odometer "rolled over" the car was crap. In about 98% of the time I covered all my costs and made at least $1000 and usually more. Most people can't believe the vast majority of the deals I've purchased. Like the 1st XKR 4 years ago. A 2000 Blk/BLK XKR Coupe 98000 miles and in very good shape, bought for $9000, drove a year, did a few things myself and sold it for $12,500. Tampamark's math works for 90% of buyers. But I bought this car as right as possible and there will be people knowing the full history willing to pay at least $17k - $18k or more for this rare car. I did a search on autotraders the other day and there was only three 2008 XKR Coupes for sale in the whole country. I think you are under estimating the interest in XKR Coupes. And regarding the guy I bought it from and where he lives, I agree it doesn't add up. But what does add up is the exceptional paint and body work done. He did not do it. As everyone here knows this isn't like fixing up any GM or ford or just about any other car. I've seen many rebuilt cars and just ones with repaired damage. They quite often have many tells. The pictures don't do justice to my 2008. The three panels that were replaced look like factory. Whoever he had do it was a master at his craft.

David, at the end of the day, if you are satisfied and happy with your purchase then more power to you. Go out and enjoy.

The repair work certainly does look first class, whoever carried it out.

I think that based on your car buying / owning experience, you made a wide eyed decision and closely scrutinized the car prior to transacting. you were happy w/ the work product and the overall condition of the car...I think you bought 2 tons of car for the money and if the car turned to dust in 3 years, you still came out on top.

cheers and happy holidays!

I don't have time for a full update. I'm actually here to grab the pictures to show to a very interested buyer. The car is amazing and while I've spent a couple thousand dollars in maintenance and repairs, I don' think much if any was due to the salvage issue. I replaced the thermostat, one MAF, 2 air filters, one motor mount, cleaned the throttle body (I know about the coating and was done by an expert, he said no solvents were used) and there were a few other items. If you are anywhere near Orlando, The Jaguar Doctor is awesome. He is extremely knowledgeable, reasonably priced ($90 an hour) and a great guy. You can call there and they will help you over the phone. I've had very few calls for all the reasons that have been mentioned. I honestly think that would be the case without the salvage title. I've also had a very high price because I'm in no hurry to sell, $24k. It's on cars.com if you want to take a look. By the way, shortly after I bought it I also bought a 2006 XJR and 2005 XKR convertible. I sold the XJR and the 2005 is also on cars.com. The really crazy part is after that I bought something that makes the 2008 purchase look sane. I went to CA and bought a 2011 Cayman S, wait for it......with 160,000 miles. I put that process on a Porsche forum and they tore me apart even worse than here. Almost universal condemnation. Search 2011 Cayman S 160,000 miles if interested.

I just took a look at that thread on Rennlist, yeah those guys were not bought into your purchase! The one guy getting mad that you asked for the advice and then was buying it anyway really cracked me up, as he said "wasting everyones time". Pretty rich comment from someone who participates in an internet forum.

Sounds like you are having fun buying and selling. Doesn't Florida have a restriction on how many cars you can sell, I want to say 4 is the limit, before you are required to get a dealer's license?

This is simple, if you can afford to handle the worst-case scenario in your high-mileage of salvage title strategy then who cares what they think.

Default Sold

I was looking at some old threads when I realized I hadn't closed this one out.
I sold the '08 back in August for $22k. All in all I made a little and got to own and drive an amazing car. I'm on the look out for a 2010 or newer XKR. The funny thing about the buyer, he was in his 60's and had never owned an import. It was for his wife. He wasn't concerned about the salvage title. He was concerned about Jaguar reliability and repair costs.
