A/c blows warm on first start in morning

I've noticed that when taking my car out of the garage in the morning, warm air comes out of the vents for a few minutes and gradually it gets cool. The a/c settings are on auto and I keep temp around 72. Once I feel the cool air or any other time during the day after the car is left in the sun and then started up, the cold air blows immediately. This warm air is only during the very first start in the morning. Is that normal?

My 2009 Jaguar XKR does the same thing. I am under the understanding that there is some sort of sensor in the car and it takes a few minutes to respond to the A/C switch. Seems normal to me.

We've had our 'new' 2008 XK for about a week now. My wife has been driving it and complained about the same thing yesterday. Our weather here in El Paso is warming up and the outside temperature was probably in the low 70's. She has the climate control set at 67 but said the AC blew warm air. I thought she may have set something wrong but haven't had a chance to check it out yet.

The default is for outside air unless you set it to maximum a/c or manually select inside (recirculated) air. Outside air will take longer to cool since it is not dehumidified, as is inside air.
If you set it on Auto, push the temperature down arrow all the way down to the coldest setting so it will automatically be on inside air. Regulate the fan speed by turning the knob. Your car should cool down faster.

Consider the joining the British Car Club of Southern New Mexico. We have quite a number of El Paso residents and have quite a few outings each month. Our next outing is March 15th for a St. Patricks Day run, when our members bring out their British Cars and do a 50 minute to 1 hour drive, then stop for a nice lunch out.
Join us at 11:00PM across from the Pan Am Center at the Dublins Restaurant. Exit #1 off of I-25. Meet new people, make new friends and see some great British cars. We are a very friendly group of people.

I too have no idea why........but at least I know I'm not alone. You can be certain there isn't a fix either.

If your ac blows warm air only when you first start it for a few minutes and then blows cold for the rest of the time, it's probably OK. Room temperature air in the ducts needs to be evacuated and the compressor needs time to build up pressure and move the warm air over the evaporator coil to cool it before you feel any cold air. See my earlier post about setting it to inside air.
If your car makes a squeaky noise when you engage the ac you may have a problem - ask an ac specialist to check for a loose fan belt, a compressor going bad, low refrigerant, or a leak.

I never hear the compressor kicking on with my XK. All the cars I've owned made a clicking noise when engaging, but the XK is quiet. I'll try to listen to it next time with the fan turned off.
