Play by play...

Got a response from Jag USA saying my issue had been forwarded to a cust serv rep and would be followed up with shortly. So took about a day and a half to get this response.

We'll see what's next...

Jaguar Premium Sound: Is the subwoofer not located under the glovebox, within the felt lining that's getting wet in the aforementioned leak? Gurgling Gaga?

Where is the subwoofer? Under the carpeting?? With Premium Sound there's one somewhere in the passenger "footwell".

Thanking you in advance for your reply.

I am making small puddles under the car again!!

Jag is sending a coupon for $250 towards anything they sell or future service. My cost to repair was a little over $360.

I had this happen on my 07 last September. I had just dropped about $600 in service before a trip when it started happening. It was surprisingly a LOT of water that was coming out.

My warranty ran out on at the end of August. I printed out a copy of the Service Bulletin from alldata and took it in.

This had 2 positive effects:
The shop knew I was privy to how much they paid for the job.
They had a hard time trying to blow off the issue.

I got really lucky, the day I was there, the Jag rep was also there. I asked for a 50/50 split on the cost, they agreed. The dealer tried to charge me more than the factory was willing to pay. It was pretty easy to talk them out of that BS.

I will say, having worked professionally on luxury cars in dealerships in a past life, the techs are getting seriously boned on this job. I felt so bad for the tech that I asked to see him and discreetly passed him a $50 bill.

In retrospect, that tip to the tech bought me so much goodwill at the dealer that I'm treated like a king every time anyone sees me there. Totally worth every penny.

Default Another Price Point - and Thanks to the Forum for Advice and $250

Had my leak repaired at Crossroads Jaguar in Roanoke, VA. Service Manager Lisa Read was terrific. It cost me about $480.

Based on what I read here I sent a note to Jaguar USA. They called me and said that since my car was out of warranty there was nothing they could do. But when I mentioned that people on this Forum had received $250 back they quickly agreed to send me the same (in the form of a certificate for future service).

So had it not been for this Forum:

- I would not have known what was causing the problem

- I would not have known about the option of dropping the transmission

- I would not have received the $250 certificate.

Thanks!!!!

what i did to fix the a/c water leak was to close all vents and put fan on full blast - this seemed to have unblocked the drain pipe - no problem since regards big a

To add to this old thread, the JTB lists the labor time required to replace the tube as 2.8 hours.
Although the figure may be the limited time that a shop can "bill" corporate for warranty reimbursement, this should still be close for owner-paid repairs as well.

Any $hop quotes should list hours close to that. If they quote you more, I would ask them to justify it after showing you the JTB...

My 2007 XK Convertible has the same problem. The aircon blower stopped working too and the dealer (San Jose British Motors) is charging $4,500++ to replace the aircon unit, the blower and the blocked pipe. Apparently it's not covered under the warranty because it's rusty - attributed to the leaking/blocked pipe.

Aside from the sticker shock of the bill, the even more scarey thing is that I could be looking at this kind of bill every year as this is clearly a design flaw.

I sent an email into to the Jaguar "Customer Relationship Center" so will see if they are willing to offer any relief.

I have never heard of the a/c unit going bad from this water problem. Get specific details and have them show you why you need the a/c unit. I would only do the leak fix and new blower motor, unless they can definitively show you a fault with the ac unit

Uhhh, me thinks there is something fishy in Denmark here.

What is "rusty"? Can't be the AC coils...the system is built to handle condensation, and there are several components in the "AC Unit", most of which is in the engine compartment. The blower motor may need to be replaced but I could not imagine the coils in the dash being "rusty".

I'd get a second opinion on this...

As to it happening every year, as long as the drain is fixed you should have trouble free operation for a long time, provided there are no mechanical problems with the AC system itself.

GreyXK, the sub is beneath the metal plate footwell on the passenger side. Amp and sub in one enclosure.

Apart from the suggestion of closing vents and turning fan on full, is there anything that can be done to prevent blockage/leaking before it happens?

Hasn't happened to me yet, but here in Texas it may be a nice cooling relief!

BUT, is this covered by the factory warranty?

Drove in last night and noticed plastic grocery bag in passenger footwell was slightly wet. Caressed felt under glove box - water gushed downward.

Called dealer service advisor today and was informed Select Edition Warranty does not cover problem.

List price for fix: $1197.

Oh, well, so much for the security afforded by the Select Edition Warranty.
The day this happened I'd been driving in drizzly/damp cool weather with both windows down a couple of inches and the climate control off. Then subsequently with the windows up, climate control on (cooling) auto and then with the recirculate button below "auto" on. That combo may have caused my malfunction.

(My local non-specialiste mechanic put the car on his lift and could not find the ac drain tube beneath the car. We were going to try the long, slim probe trick.)

I've only used "auto" since then and the wellspring under the glove box has not recurred. Condensation drains below the car.

It might be wise to only use "auto" or it could just be a quirk of my 2007 XK.

Am still bemused by the $1197 dealer quote, not to mention other disappointments with service, attitude, etc.
