Default Can't find 20-114411 (front shocks) anywhere except dealer at huge markup

Hello folks,

My '07 XK (coupe) has had issues with vibrations in the front suspension; anytime I go over tracks or a speed bump I would hear a clanging noise coming from behind the center console. Took it to a repair shop and they replaced the bushings and control arms which made for some improvement. The only components they couldn't replace are the front struts/shocks since they can't find the parts (20-114411) anywhere at a reasonable price. Dealership wants ~$700 *per* strut...

My contact at the repair shop insists that if I wait they probably could find the part from their short list of suppliers. However, I'm wondering if this is delaying the inevitable and if I should swallow the cost of having the shop buy the parts wholesale from the dealer (both based in South Florida). It's not *urgent* that I have the car fixed immediately but I wonder if I should wait? Does anyone know if Bilstein even still manufactures this part for general sale outside of the dealership channel?

Thanks for any help or suggestions as to where I should look.

Thanks; I saw both of these while googling the part myself but didn't find the "drop-ship" piece encouraging. I'll call them to confirm if they can actually get it...

Thanks very handy. I budgeted 700/shock and a hassle to find. Possible life on fronts? Rears? Moderately aggressive driving.

I believe you have the two stage 'expensive' shocks on your 2007 xkr, not the ones shown.

70K+ miles they start to show their age and dampening deminishes

According to the link I posted:

Bilstein B4 OE Replacement (DampTronic) dampers are direct OE replacements for the electronically adjustable dampers found on many European brand vehicles.

I think that applies to the post Stuart made.

My bad, you are correct.
I just checked rockauto (not my favorite for various reasons) and they are even 'discounting' them at the moment.
Hope they can actually supply them.

Well folks, here's an update...

I placed an order on Summit Racing with an estimated ETA of August 10th back in mid-July; checked yesterday and...showed an ETA of November 24th!

Canceled the order and now am ordering directly from the dealer; looks like there's hardly any other timely options except paying through the nose. Alas...

I replaced the CATS dampers on my '07 base coupe last year. Plenty of rear, weeks-long search for Bilstein fronts. Finally found "the last two in my warehouse" after ordering and and getting "nope, can't get them anymore" from several sources. Other than Jags overpriced units, I suspect the only choice for many will be to delete the CATS in the configuration file and replace with non-cats units. Since I believe all early 4.2 era cats units were only two stage, it may not make much difference to use non-cats all around. FWIW, this might open the door to a wider range of damper options, since Bilstein is the only manufacturer of cats type dampers.
