Before anyone bites my head off, my wood was looking pretty bad. Check out this pic. The edges of the wood look terrible. I asked a friend who is an expert in woodworking what I could do to fix it. She said "nothing". It just needs to be replaced.
I've looked on eBay for replacement wood, but I haven't found anything. Plus, to be honest, the wood looks like a fuddy-duddy old man type of feature. And even though I AM a fuddy-duddy old man, I would prefer to be viewed as a hip and groovy young stud. Carbon fiber exudes "hip and groovy", so I'm covering my wood with (vinyl) carbon fiber. Carbon fiber is much lighter than wood, so this should make my car lighter and faster too.
But now I have to do the center console. All of the other piece were covered by removing them from the car. That made it relatively easy. The center console doesn't look easy to remove. Does anyone know how to do it? If I have to cover it in place I know I'm going to screw it up. I was able to remove the chrome piece from around the shifter, but I can't figure out how to remove the wood bits. Any thoughts?
Thanks Sean. I ordered some brushed aluminum wrap and carbon fiber wrap, but I went with the carbon fiber. I put the brushed aluminum at the bottom of the cup holder because on my car the metal pieces in the cup holder were pitted and corroded. I might re-do them with the carbon fiber. I'm not sure yet.
Heck... I might rip all of the carbon fiber off and put the brushed aluminum stuff on. It's really easy to do, and my first try looks good, but it's not perfect.
It's done! For some reason the ash tray lid spring isn't working, but I'm sure I can fix that next weekend. It's not a high priority. I made a couple of minor boo-boos that most people won't notice. I have plenty of vinyl wrap, so I'll fix those later. It looks 1000% better than the wood. I'll take a pic tomorrow in the daylight and post it here.
I just started looking up your posts on the Android interface and the backup camera. Unfortunately, since you mention them in your signature, every time you comment on a thread, those threads show up when I search for "back up camera" or "Android".

Do you have a thread where you explain it all?
You are far too kind Sam. I built on the backs of others, nothing original here.
For back up camera, you have two options which depend on the route you want to take Sam, and whether you have access to SDD. If you have access, I would personally do the retrofit of the camera in this thread. It's a busy thread but near the end, Cee Jay and TexasTraveler use it to add back up camera's for the 2010 MY. so it's of value to you if you go that route. https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...08-xkr-198002/ - This is thanks to Jahummer and Cambo.
Use the thread Cee Jay posted for a virtual gauge screen only but you can also use to add a back up camera without SDD, but it isn't automatic.
You can go nuts and add other features but I recommend just the gauges to start.
