Celebrating 2 years of (nearly) problem-free XKR ownership
Hey all,
I know a lot people are only on the forums when they have a problem with their Jag. I have to say, though...I've owned my 2013 XKR for 2 years now and my ownership experience has been nearly problem-free. I call mine an XKR+, it has the performance seats and the Performance Active Exhaust options like an XKR-S.
Right after I got it, the CEL came on and the issue was fixed by the dealer. It needed a new purge valve. I also had to fix the sticky buttons on the steering wheel and console.
Right now, the right front TMPS sensor is out (dead battery), but that happens on all vehicles eventually. I just haven't had time to go get it replaced. The only other things I've had done to it are a ceramic coating (Ceramic Pro...highly recommended, by the way), swapped out the incandescent interior lights with LEDs, and routine maintenance at a local independent shop (annual oil changes, brake flush, etc).
I am still extremely happy with my XKR, I smile every time I look at it and I absolutely love driving it. There is honestly no car I'd take over my XKR right now.
I hope I just didn't jinx myself by posting this...lol.
Good to hear your favorable experience with your XKR+. I'm on my 3rd XKR++. Yes, XKR++, I have all of your options, + dynamic pack, speed pack and performance exhaust; or, should I say XKR-S-, lol.
I too have experienced very few problems and I'm still loving it. A couple more weeks to go before 2022 driving season, 😊
I know a lot people are only on the forums when they have a problem with their Jag......
I know. it's depressing. I don't know why I keep coming back.
Great to hear you're having a troublefree and enjoyable ownership experience. I like reading this kind of post and reports of Jaguar trips to scenic places.
Great comments! I'm in a very similar boat... just about two years and 9000 miles into my '08 XKR
aside from tires and basic maintenance, I couldn't be happier.
I'm in the same boat. I have owned my 2011 XKR-175 since 2014 and here is the list of problems experienced and work performed:
Scheduled maintenance. Feels weird to stuff "ford" parts into a Jaguar.
A new battery in 2015 and again in 2022, replaced proactively instead of waiting for voltage troubles. Thank you battery tender!
Intermittent TPMS errors, fixed when I replaced the tires and TPMS monitors due to old age
The car stubbornly won't clean itself, so I have to
A small warning light illuminates every week or so, but goes away when I add "gasoline". The stuff is magic, and I'm not sure the car would even work without it!

i like the house.I wouldn't mine getting me 1 that size. But i want 1 with a garage to put my jag in
Thanks! The garages are around the side, filled with the station wagon and wife's Volvo. My truck sits outdoors in an auxiliary parking spot I created. The Jag spends it's winters in a rented storage unit, sad and lonely. Maybe that's why it jumps to life when it sees me!
tygerman,
If it's of any comfort, my 2010 XKR with pulley, tune, X-pipe and Mina exhaust will hit 200,000 miles sometime in the next month. It has been the most reliable, most enjoyable car I have ever owned among 3 dozen or so and 53 years of driving. I would venture to say you're in for a long, troublefree love affair. I could sell any of my cars which include some classics like my '68 GTO, my '72 De Tomaso Pantera, even my 2002 XKR 'vert, but I will never sell my 2010 XKR, it's that enjoyable still. Enjoy!
Wow....200K. That's amazing. Congrats! I figured only Japanese cars had that kind of longevity.
BTW, I had only ever owned Toyota/Lexus vehicles until 2018 when I got my Infiniti which has been problem free (only 1 issue in 3.5 years of ownership: just last month, dead battery revived with a jump start). It's a hybrid so jumping it was tricky because I hadn't done it before, but that's a story for the Infiniti forum...lol.
Maybe I can keep my Jag for quite a while.

My 2013 XKR got a new water pump at about 35k miles and a botched attempt at a Tesla style head unit (problem I made). Other than that and changing the oil every 5k miles. By the way I bought it new (at a great price) in 2016 and it now has about 52k in miles. I think I will keep it until I no longer can get in and out it.
It's a 2017 Q50 Hybrid. They've since stopped production of their hybrids, in 2018 or 2019 I think. I average 28-32 MPG driving in DC area stop and go traffic with this one...quite a feat for a 360 HP sport sedan, I think.
Here's a pic, although I've been neglecting her since I got my XKR...lol.

We also have an Infiniti Q50s Hybrid for 7 years and its been 110k km problem free motoring. 550Nm of instant torque. Put non run flat sticky tyres and its a 4.7sec 0-100km/h sleeper!!
I bought my 2007 XKR Coupe in August 2018 with 50,500 miles.
Repairs:
Coolant Overflow Tank - $150 and 2 hours
VVT Solenoid Passenger Side - $100 and 3 hours
PS Pump, Reservoir and Low Pressure House - $160 and 8 hours because of layout and I had to make some tools
Washer reservoir hose came off - $3 and an hour
TPMS Sensors - $200 and done when I got tires last year for no labor
LH Drivers Headlight AFS wiring fault causing lazy eye - $5 in wire, heatshrink and solder. Took about 3-4 hours.
Car has 77k on it now. It’s has cosmetic repairs, and repairs to cosmetic items that were broken when I bought it and got a better price because of it.
It had the wrinkly dash and had some road rash on the wheels. I did the dash with a low mileage replacement and strengthened it on the front edge with staples. Paid $700 on eBay and looks perfect two years on. Paid $400 for all four wheels to be refinished like new. I also had a full multi stage paint correction and ceramic coating done, headlights polished abs painted with 2K clear, all dings removed. That was another 800.
I’ve also added $500 in mods; a factory Auxiliary Audio Kit from Rimmer Bros and a Bovee 1000.
I’ve done about $1000 in just preventative maintenance; all fluids, all belts and filters, spark plugs and now I’m probably forgetting. I’m coming up on doing a few of these again due to age or mileage. I also just spent $1300 for 4 new tires last fall.
Total Cost
$20k purchase
$600 repairs parts
$1100 cosmetic repairs
$800 detail work
$2300 maintenance and tires
$500 mods
Total of $25,300
The car is in very nice shape, cosmetically excellent, excellent maintenance History with records, and I bet I can get at least $20k for it if I sold it. So call it $1500 a year really to drive a Jaguar XKR 8k a year. Say I sold it for $17k, and it’s still only $2500 a year. Go look though and my $20k number is pretty reasonable considering it’s a no excuse Car.
