Changes to stereo
After the great stereo upgrade (https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...upgrade-74410/) I was thinking - and I guess this doesn't just apply to XKs, but seeing as that is where I did the upgrade I'll post here.
My upgrade left me with the original rear speakers and new front speakers and tweeters powered by a much more powerful amp.
So - the front is much louder than the rear. That is fine, because, lets be honest - how many people can fit in the rear?
But it led me to thinking - bass frequencies require more power for the same percieved sound level and the rear speakers are full range - so from the front all I am hearing of them (if I hear the rear speakers at all) are high frequencies.
So, with the aim of giving a "larger" sound effect (similar to making your surround sound at home "wider") - I disabled the tweeters in the front and shifted the fade towards the rear ever so slightly.
And it worked! It left me with a system that still sounds full (I'm not missing any frequencies) - but that the high frequencies seem to come from behind me - so, with the kind of music that I listen to (rock music) cymbols and snare drum appear behind me and everything else in front. I like the effect it has given - makes it sound very spacious - if you see what I mean.
Anyways - just thought I'd share.
