I changed both my air filters on my 2010 XKR by turning the 20" wheels fully to each side. You have to somewhat bend the inner fenders to make the room, but it is easy and quick. I did both in under 15 minutes, including washing the boxes out.

All late model Jaguars come from the factory with 2-piece lug nuts that have a decorative chrome outer shell surrounding a steel nut that screws onto the wheel stud. Using an impact wrench to either loosen or tighten that OEM lug nut risks stripping the outer shell from the inner nut, which results in the outer shell spinning around and around. For this reason, always loosen and tighten your lug nuts by hand. See: https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...-bolts-145997/

Per the Owner's Handbook, wheels should be torqued to 92 lb.ft. I recently had Discount Tire install new tires on my 2013 XJ and their computer listed torque to be 100 lb. ft., which was incorrect and could possibly cause warped rotors. See my posts ##5 and 13: https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...s-06-a-153244/

The factory should have used a one-piece chrome lug nut, like Gorilla Part Number 73138J, which is sold on eBay: 20 Gorilla Jaguar 12x1 5 OE Stock Factory Wheels Rims Mag Lug Nuts Chrome | eBay You don't need the Gorilla nuts if you don't strip your OEM ones. Remember to never use a torque wrench and take care of your nuts!

Jag didn't give a lot of thought to filter changes when they designed this car. The cabin filter is a PITA too.
I did mine a week or 2 ago. I also have an 07 with 20" wheels, plus I have petite female hands and I could not get to the air filter without removing the wheel. Idk how some of you guys are able to get at it with that wheel in place.

Did my 07' in abt 15mins which included putting the jack away…. it is a tight squeeze to extract the old and reinsert the new but hey, nothing wrong with a tight squeeze.

Many thanks for this thread.

Time to change the air cleaner in the Jag - 1 hour including a trip to the parts store to buy torx that fit.

Time to change the air cleaner in the Explorer - 5 min.

I still like the Jag better

Ron

I also did the air filters a couple of weeks ago and technically it is simple if long-winded. The filter holders are stuff though. I was doing the rear brakes and brake fluid anyway so the wheels were off. I personally would not even attempt it with the wheels on and the liner part loosened. It only takes 5 mins to jack the car up and remove the wheel then you have space to work and a chance to clean out any dirt and rubbish too.

There are a couple of workshop manuals on Jaginfo.com, such as this one for the 4.2 cars: http://jagrepair.com/images/AutoRepa...150Service.pdf

The detail isn't great for non-pros but they are a good start for most jobs and you get used to the level of info after a while.

Near Stuttgart? We are from the UK but have lived in Sindelfingen for over 20 years now.

Links to download Workshop Manuals and Electrical Guides are included in the "Stickies" at the top of the first page of this Forum.

Also included in those Stickies are links to download "Owner's Handbooks" and "How To DIY / Repair and Maintenance".

I know this is an old thread, but I found it impossible to slide the filter holder out, with the tire turned full lock right. Also, tough to get to all the fender lining fasteners as well. So, I took the right front wheel off. Spent about two hours, start to finish. Glad I only do this once or twice a year.
