Very simple job. Fronts are very quick. Its good to have a piston retractor for the rears so you're not fighting with a pair of needle nose pliers to retract the ebrake but it's no different from any other car with a floating caliper. Entire job should take less than an hour if you have a lift maybe a little longer if your jacking each corner.

What kind of pads are you thinking of using? My 08 Portfolio is also due a brake job.

I was thinking of going ceramic.

Does Akebono make pads for XKR? I am pleased with them on my VDP. Very low brake dust with decent stopping power. Initial braking is tad light, but then dig in well.

Seems to be a popular brand (at least for XJ's) on this forum.

I used the EBC reds. overall better grip esp when hot dust was about the same as the stock pads. don't forget to use the antisqueak pads supplied with the rears.

The brake job is identical to the Jeep with the exception of needing to remove the little R plate on the front of the rear calipers that's held on with 2 phillips head screws

I did my own... Pads and rotors on the Front. Simple job (I am not a mechanic) make sure you have a wire coat hanger to fashion a support for the weight of the caliper. This is to ensure you do not damage the brake lines.

Alcon brakes were an option on Portfolio models. The OEM part numbers for Alcon brake pads are different from the part numbers for non-Alcon XKRs. I suspect those pads are not interchangeable. Buyer beware when purchasing aftermarket brake pads for a Portfolio with Alcon brakes.

My XKR has 20" Sentas and the standard XKR Brakes. There were no option for brake upgrades on the XKR when I bought mine. There are a number of different brake pad and rotor options for the XKR especially after market. However you can tell the good suppliers as they will ask for your VIN before supply to make sure they are supplying the right product for your particular car.

I have a 2008 XKR Portfolio with the 20" wheels and Alcon package. I too have been struggling to find correct brake pads. Any suggestions?

I replaced both front and rear. 2009 XKR Portfolio with non-Alcon. Took about an hour total. All ceramic. Front pads Centric 105.12400, $50, rear Akebono EUR1095, $55. Akebono did not make pads for the front although I think I've read in another post that they might have a set available now. The reduction in brake dust over OEM is tremendous. I don't notice any difference in braking quality. Highly recommend this combination.

Anyone know what the right EBC Redstuff part number is for a standard XK? I have a 2009 XK convertible. Put the EBCs on my XF and love them, but parts and EBC websites have not been very helpful in finding the right # for my XK.

First brake job is now required with 40K on car. Is replacing the rotors mandatory or preferable for the XK, thanks.
