Charging your smart phone in the car
In reading the manual for my 2010 XK, I found that the cigar lighter should NOT be used to charge phones or other electrical devices. The same goes for the 12 volt connection in the glove compartment. That's news to me. I wonder how many of you routinely do this? And could that be a cause of some of the electrical gremlins we occasionally experience?

This is the text from the manual:
An electrical accessory socket is located inside the glove compartment. This 12 volt socket should only be used for the temporary connection of electrical items, such as a vacuum cleaner or cool box.
CAUTIONS
Only Jaguar approved accessories
should be plugged into the power
sockets. Using any other equipment may
damage the vehicle's electrical system. If you
are in any doubt, contact a Jaguar Dealer.
The engine should be running when
using accessories for long periods.
Failure to do so can discharge the battery.
This is just a legal disclaimer. There are all manner of accessories and some, such as power inverter can overload the wiring. Also, if an accessory causes a fire this absolves Jaguar. As long as the engine is running, or just a few minutes with the engine off, the small drain from a charger will not cause any problems.
