Throttle body gunked up? Common on modern V8 Jag's, but I think it is also a dealership scam for easy money.

Thanks avos. The shop is going to do more testing and I think they have something to read the fuel trims. So far they did inspect the MAF and cleaned it and found nothing wrong but still check engine comes on after a mile or so. They will be doing more testing tomorrow. Will let you know what they find.

rscultho: Your absolutely right that I didn't put many miles since the air induction kit last year...in fact I don't put many miles on the Jag at all. I'm guessing only 1,500 miles since the kit was installed.

The funny thing was I drove it that morning for about 40 minutes and then I decided to stop by Advanced Auto to have them check my battery and right when I was leaving Advanced Auto is when the check engine light came on for the first time. I thought maybe they did something when checking my battery as they did hook up a hand held to the battery terminals but it must have been just a coincidence.

Hey Ghost, at least you're getting a code. My car still has a nasty intermittent stumble misfire right after the fast idle period of a cold start and really gives the car a sharp stumble but NO code/light.
And because there is no code the dealership says everything is ok! I've also been told its a characteristic of the 5.0 engine to stumble at idle...WTF? Funny niether of the two 5.0 XF's I was given ever stumbled at idle.
I hope they get your baby sorted out soon. I'm not too sure about the new Viper for you; I think there are better and higher quality choices than the Viper; I at least hope the engine doesn't sound like a UPS truck anymore.
I'm starting to think I should have gotten the new 13 SL and had coolers added to the seats as things with Jaguar are off to a very rocky start. Sure is a pretty car, but as they say, beauty is only skin deep...

RJC: Maybe the stumble misfire is Jaguar mysteriously put a 427 stroker in your car that you didn't know about and thus the lumpy idle. All kidding aside, I think mine should be straightened out soon and I hope they can find a fix on your car. It wouldn't hurt to checkout the '12 SL....you know the 2013 SL65 was just unveiled a few weeks ago.

I hear ya on the Viper......it was just two of my buddies had C5s just like I did and they both then switched to Vipers while I stayed with the C5. Whenver I rode with them, it just seem more raw and fun and I always wanted a Viper.....although the raw can also be scary at times. I'll still wait for the '14 991 TriTurbo and Audi R8 which should be unveiled at next years Geneva Auto Show (hopefully).

My neighbor just got a new r8 V10 cab; I don't think he even knows the car's getting restyled soon and I don't have the heart to tell him.

I've also got another neighbor that has a new ZR1, his second and he loves it, zero problems and it looks great. I wonder if the new C7 might be an option for you?

If they don't get the rest of these glitches in my car sorted and soon, I'll get the 13 SL and have the seats done...Jaguar initial quality is killing me.

When does the new SL 63 debut? The 65 is too much car for me

Last I heard the R231 should be here in the Spring so I'm guessing the SL63 should arrive shortly after? The AMG official website stills only showing the 2012 SL63 and so the 2013 is probalby not available yet. At least the SL63 will give you massaging and cooling seats which is a plus.
C7? Nah....had a Corvette already....won't do another unless the C7 blows me away. Also...just too many around although there is no arguing the performance is up there with the best (Z06/ZR1).

I've been told the 231 will be in the dealerships by May. We'll see what happens.

My Check Engine Light went off all by itself one week ago. I've felt no hesitation or anything unusual since. Tires still struggle for grip when accelerating at highway speeds so power seems "adequate". I'll call the dealership foreman to discuss, but it looks like any bad gas or mice got blown out the ole tailpipes, and the ECU has reset itself.

If a mouse got in there over the winter and ate through, or plugged with a nest, one of the intakes that would cause a flow imbalance, and he thinks that is more likely the cause. The intakes are not user accessible so they'll have to pull it apart, something they didn't have time to do the day I took it in.

The good news is he says there's no urgency to bring it in as the engine will run safely on ECU mapped values. I may run it up a couple of ramps to look underneath anyways. I'll update when it gets all sorted out.

Good that it is ok again of course, but am not so sure about the advice given from the shop foreman about driving without knowing what the prime cause was, did they ever gave you the codes?

I got my car back last friday and what needed to be fixed was replaced passenger seat module, driver side MAF, and there was also a very slight exhaust leak tripping a code (due to the aftermarket hiflo cats). The car is just shy of 9,000 miles. Funny how stock parts (MAF and seat module) starts to go after warranty is up but I guess it's just coincidence. BTW.....the shop doesn't believe the bad MAF was due to the Mina air induction kit as when he looked at the MAF, it looked fine with no damage to the sensors. He even cleaned the MAF and still no go. He then switched the two MAFs and it tripped code for the other side.

Default Good info

Sorry for your troubles Ghostrider but thank you for sharing your experiences... especially considering my warranty is just about up as well.
