Yeah, that light is on because the engine is broken..... because it isn't running.
Every car built does this, it's to have a visual confirmation that the light isn't burnt out.
@SpartanBadger - This is normal. Now, if it is illuminated when you are completely shut down I'd be worried. I'd be impressed with the eager-beaverness about the light wanting to warn you - but that is unlikely happening.
There is no "accessory" mode as there was in the days of Ignition key positions I and II. One press of the start button puts the ignition ON. The only thing preventing the engine starting is the brake interlock. At this point the bulb check initiates where most of the warnings illuminate for 3 to 5 seconds.
The MIL remains ON until the engine is started or the ignition is switched OFF with another press of the start buton.
If you continue to have the ignition ON without the engine running (for example, playing audio) a warning to start the engine appears in the message centre as the battery begins to drop.
Hello, today I noticed my 2007 XKRs check engine light came on when in accesory mode.
I havent noticed anything wrong with the car, any advice?
if you power on the jag without starting it,everybody's Jag does this. This is normal and it's no problem that you should worry about. But if it stays there when you start the car and about to drive it or it's on everywhere you go when you're driving it,that's when you should worry.
