Default Comments on XKR when dirty

Has anyone noticed that you get way more comments and people talking to about the car when it is filthy than you do when it's clean? I can't believe how many positive comments I get when the car is covered with salt, pollen, brake dust and mud! I still get some comments when the car is clean, but not nearly as many.

My theory is people are intimidated when the car is sparkling clean. But when it's dirty, not so much. What do you think?

Dunno, mine spends most of its time dirty - no garage, so it's always getting covered in city grime.

Regardless of its state of cleanliness whenever I'm in the petrol station I'll get people commenting

What matters most, clean wheels and tires.

yeah, it doesn't matter if she's clear or filthy, I get comments pretty much every day. I try to keep her clean though....I like it when she shines....such a pretty car!

I get a lot of comments but when I've just waxed it people make the effort to wander over to ask about it. Pretty much every time. And I'm conceited enough to love it.

I'm probably more **** than most. I do not take mine out unless it's clean.

People loved my 03 xk8, my 09 xkr just looks like an expensive toy. Still a lot more fun to drive though.

I wash my cars once a week, so they can only get so dirty... I'd say the person making the comment has inferred more appreciation to your car since it appears you are using it. Like seeing a sports car with snow tires or mud encased Range Rover.

{Laughing} Me too... contributes to my perfect Saturday morning. Coffee, wash/play with car, then make it back inside for F1 qualifying.

But I think you're onto something here... the many onlookers at the ski hill see the car at its finest, lol.

If it's dirty the quest might be "whats a matter , can't afford to wash it". I try not to get it dirty and usually do a spray detail and wipe when I get it home. I'll wash it after getting caught in the rain but usually I don't take it out then.

Is there a point to washing ones' car when knowing all too well the construction dust across the road will dirty it in a matter of minutes !

That's my weekend too. How about that Alonso crash? If all you saw was the wreckage, there would be tears a plenty...

That's the funny thing about it. The comments are always complimentary... even if it's covered with salt and muck!

This depends on if its going to sit in sunlight or not. The heat from sunlight can cause some of the stuff to wish to mate with your paint. You also want to remove bird poo ASAP.

I believe it, you and a clean car may be too sexy for the chicks. Damn I must be too sexy for them even with a dirty car.

The women who go for the guys in the race edition porsches amaze me. I want to ask them, 'honey do you think you will ever get to drive that car and what happens if you gain a little weight' LOL

Forgive me if this thread was about getting looks from boys, then they probably just want to wash it.

I have no room in my garage, so I have kept my Black XK outside with a Covercraft Noah cover through the fall and winter. I have to say, I didn't need to wash the car all season. I took it out every sunny day I could when the snow was off the roads. The cover has worked out great... maybe some light swirl type marks around the haunches, but honestly they may have been there since I got the car. Getting the cover on and off takes me just a few minutes now that I've done it a bunch of times. I give it a once over with a car duster before putting it back on. I'll probably keep using it during the rest of the year to keep off the bird poop and pollen.
