Well, not "intending to buy" doesn't mean I can't still be looking! :P

Any idea what is going on under the glovebox here?

Does anyone have any idea what sort of stereo this '07 has?

I'm a little confused because I don't see an MP3 option on the screen. Didn't all XKs have this feature?

Hmmmm.... a salesman just told me that the 2007 didn't have Ipod connectivity. That's kinda annoying!

iPod connection became available with the 2009 XK/XKR models as standard equipment, and is integrated with the audio head unit.

On 2007 the iPod connector is an dealer installed add-on. The audio screen will have an additional label for the ipod. Nothing comes up on the screen and all it does is + - the songs. I assume ipod will play streamed music though the connector. About $500 delaler installed.

At least I have Sirius and CD player. I'd do anything not to have to have that ridiculous fishing pole antenna up all the time!

That looks like the Alpine premium sound system. Something else you need to realize in addition to no ipod or aux connection is that the sirius radio on the 2007 will not accept the Sirius Premium Package which gives access to all channels. In summary any sirius channel listed in the 200's is out. This p****d me off as I couldn't get the PGA network. Non golfers wont appreciate that but you need to make sure you're favorite channels are covered by their Select Package which is the best you can get.

Sirius Select - SiriusXM Radio

Sometimes the 2007 technology in the car frustrates but the positives far outway the negatives.

I have a 2008 XKR and had my Jaguar Dealer add it to mine and it works outstanding you can do the same to the 2007

Is the fact that ambient temp is reading 0 degrees of concern? I noticed the climate is off. IIRC, if the climate was off on my X350, I wouldn't get a temperature reading. But I never had the climate off so I can't be sure!

My car has done that a few times and then starts showing correct temperature. Never stayed around long enough to troubleshoot a fix.

The strange thing is that the price difference between a 2007 XKR and 2009 XKR with similar mileage is not very much at all. A 2007 XKR 'vert right now with 30-40k miles might be priced at $42-44k, but a 2009 'vert with the same miles may be priced at $51-53k. I'm not sure why I'm so surprised by this, but I am!

I am looking at purchasing a Certified Series 2008 XK from Jaguar of Seattle for importation to Canada. Has anyone dealt with this dealership. Any specific comments on what to look at in the 2008.
Thanks
Jim

Well, I just test drove a 2007 Porsche Boxster S, in the hopes that I would fall in love with it and end my misery trying to find an XKR that is close to my price range, now that I am going to be ready to purchase a car in the next month.

The Boxsters are so easy to find, by comparison. There are literally 20 to 30 within easy driving distance of here that I would potentially be interested in, if I liked the car.

Not surprisingly, I didn't like it. The Boxsters are nice (I test drove a Boxster S with a 6 speed manual), but the shifter is kinda floppy, and car is extremely firm, the engine doesn't have much grunt (or even a good sound) until you really get on it above 3000 rpm or so, and they are so dang common. When I test drove the XKRs, I was giddy with excitement, and you get the feeling that everyone is looking at your admiring your car (maybe I'm just imagining this). One thing that really annoyed me about the Boxster is you can't see the engine. I must be an idiot, but when I opened up the rear boot, I was shocked to find... a trunk. I was expecting to see an engine!

On the plus side, the Boxster is technically much more a driver's car than the XKR. First and foremost, it has a manual transmission (however floppy and imprecise it may be), which is a plus, but not as much of a plus compared to the XKR's ZF transmission as I would've thought. The Boxster's steering is really the high point of this car. Compared to absolutely everything else I've driven (Miata, RX8, etc.), the steering just feel so direct and precise. The interior materials on the Porsche are also quite a bit better, in my opinion, than what you find in the Jag. I didn't see any real signs of wear in the interior. The braking on the Boxster is also excellent. The firm pedal lends itself to very confident and sure-footed braking. The acceleration of the Boxster seems to be almost on par with a 4.2 XKR, although I can imagine it depends on the driver. Definitely enough for street use.

So it brings me back to the XKR. My car life is almost exactly the opposite of my dating life. I've only ever really had one girlfriend (perhaps soon to be fiance???), but I've had tons of cars. My first love was the Miata, but I grew up a little bit and wanted something more substantial. Then I went through a series of boring, flawed and emotionally draining cars, before I met Jaguar. Jaguar was like a sophisticated woman that was drop dead gorgeous, but in a subtle way. We've been dating on and off for the last few years (X350 and Series III XJ6), and I may have even strayed from her more than once (Honda Insight, Ford Mustang), but I still yearn for her. I've done enough speed dating (Boxster, Corvette, et al) to know that the Jaguar XKR is the one I want to settle down with for a long time. And I'm not going to stop until I win her back!

Sorry for getting all sappy! I'm hoping that something comes into the local dealer soon!

I don't think Jaguar gets enough credit for how absolutely glorious the AJV8 engine sounds when it is tuned like it is on the XK/R. That flat-6 on the Porsche couldn't hold a candle to it!

OK, I'm starting to get more serious about buying an XKR.

I'm trying to explore more options. Does anyone know of any car buying services or independent dealers that can hunt auctions for you and let you know what's coming up, buy a car on your behalf, and then sell it to you (for a reasonable profit)?

Also, I recall someone on here saying that there was an independent dealer on the forums that did exactly this. Does anyone have his contact information?

Thanks!

Pretty sure Jaguar lease returns go through Manheim. If I were you, I'd avoid the auctions seeing how particular you have been thus far with your search. At the auction, there is no way to tell what needs to be done with the car and it is a big risk to buy blind.

My thoughts exactly. Probably more times than not they are good cars, but without service history it's unnerving. There is one I found and after looking at the car fax alone it showed, new radiator, engine removed to do valve replacement, brakes rotors & pads replaced at 10k miles!

Short of buying brand new, used always has some risk, but you can minimalize it with having a chance to research when it's on a lot.

I'm still on my quest as well, but feel like i'm getting closer....

Manheim should have a cut list in time to research before bidding, but reading how finicky the buyers are on this thread, it's not worth the risk going to Manheim unless in person.

Call a bunch of Jag dealers and tell them exactly what you want and the price range.

If you say you don't want the car Jag certified, they should be willing to turn the car over for minimal profit/effort. All the dealer did for me was to fix the AC drain and install the iPod connector. Their price was fair and we did not haggle at all.
