Considering XKR - aftermarket parts availability?
Hi guys!
New to the forum, but not new to Jags. I grew up with a Jaguar loving dad who has had 4 or 5 Jags throughout my childhood :-)
I grew up working on Camaro's and Firebird's, and currently have an 03 Mustang GT as my fun car.
Most days I'm not finding my Mustang all that fun. I bought it a year ago because I remember all the joy I had with those types of cars in the good old days, but after driving brand new BMW's, Volvo's and Acura's throughout my adult life, the rattles and noise and vibrations completely exhaust me.
I've seen a couple of quite affordable 2011-2012 XK-R's for sale and I've fallen in love with their look, and feel like they might offer me a driving experience more along the lines of what I'm looking to achieve with my Mustang. The cost of the Jag is similar to how much money I'd be putting into the Mustang to MAYBE get close to what I want.
But my concern is repair costs. I bought my wife a 2006 BMW X5 a year ago - it's our first time with a luxury brand that wasn't bought brand new and isn't under warranty. I've learned that pretty much every part I could ever want us readily available in aftermarket, and every repair I've undertaken has been very inexpensive. I just replaced both front Axles for $105.
I'm happy to learn the nuances of working on a Jag, but my question is: Is all the online repair information and parts availability similar to the older BMW's? Or am I going to have to pay through the nose to source parts at the dealerships or pay the premium for a Jaguar emblem on the parts?
Is there a well established aftermarket parts availability? And is there an established community of DIY enthusiasts that write articles and make YouTube videos about common repairs?
Thanks! Sorry for the long winded post - I didn't want my first post on the forum to be a one liner ;-)

In a word, no. there is little aftermarket availability of parts since Jaguars were a relatively low production vehicle and there isn't that much of a market for parts. There are a couple of Jaguar parts specialists like Welsh and Barrett that can source most parts but not real cheap. Ebay is somewhat useful and there are a couple of salvage yards that specialize in Jags though. Maintenance parts like filters. brake pads, etc are available but even then, not like a Mustang. Exclusivity does have its drawbacks.
This forum is pretty much it for advice on repairs.

^ agree...
Very little is available for this chassis, certainly not in the customization department. Minagallery has some bling, and a few here have been quite creative with interiors n such.
Sadly, I'm even seeing folks mention certain parts parts from Jaguar are slowly being discontinued.
By 2021 they dont have to offer anything if they choose.

Ok, so you’ve gotten the wet blanket replies, but it’s not all bad.
If you read the threads in this forum you’ll find that some parts are shared with other products, which brings down the price if you buy from a vendor selling that other product’s component. For example, various suspension pieces are shared with several Ford produced vehicles, and other Jaguar models. Some other pieces are shared with Land Rover models, and their production volume brings down the price of the spares.
