Forum member WhiteXKR (Steve) is the expert on everything about the convertible top. He's the inventor of the Convertible Top Remote Control with Rear Window Controller, which is what the factory forgot. See his advice in these threads:

i have exactly the same issue on my 2007 XK. Was told pump needed changing but I have my doubts! I’d love some sensible advice!

I am having an issue with the top not operating at all. I recently purchased the XK 2010 MY second hand. The roof never worked for me.
I have done already multiple test sessions. In some checks, the pump worked to pressure the tonneau bow to close it fully, so the motor and hydraulic pressure seems to work.
I did all the newbie checks: reset windows multiple times, multiple minutes, Check proper luggage separator latching. Remove RJB fuse F8 for half an hour, etc.
I connected to SDD to check the output of the sensors, The top latch sensors respond well, depending on mechanically latching the top latch using the allen key.
I get some DTCs on some bow sensors (open or short circuit), so my next checks need to go there:
FTCM B107F - Tension bow valve 2 - fault type 15 - circuit short to battery or open
FTCM B1080 - Tension bow valve 3 - fault type 15 - circuit short to battery or open
FTCM B1070 - J_14229 - Fault type 31 - Frequency modulation/pulse width modulation failure - no signal
Another issue: the quarter rear windows are fully closed. Whatever operation on the top, they do not go down mor move at all. Possibly the power supply to them is cut.
I would need to dismount the lefthand side roll-over protection unit to access the FCTM and to check the status of the connections.
It could very well be that a previous owner has disabled the quarter window power motors, stuck in closed position, to avoid they would stick open with the malfunctioning roof.
Funny thing: when having "Roof not latched" when fully closed, I manage to remove the message by operating the tonneau closure cilinder towards the "pivot over center" position firmly. Lo and behold: "Roof not latched" message disappeared!
Nonetheless, the roof does not respond to opening or closing.
I will post my findings as I go.

Thanks for the tip. Of course: I use a 40 Amps battery power supply for this purpose, well capable of raising the convertible roof.
I believe my issue is due to water ingress after a dislodged rear window.
I will need to pull the over roll restraint and check the rear quarter window power supply, which also carries the earth return of the Tension bow valves 2 an 3.
Either the plug is corroded after water ingress or de module itself is soaked.
I believe this as a viable answer to the combined issues I reported above.

Follow=up: today, I removed the over roll restraint airbag to access the convertible top module.
My deduction was correct: there is something wrong with the plug driving the rear quarter windows and the earth of the tension bow valve solenoids.
The problem was not water ingress... everything was dry. The problem was simply that the plug was not plugged in the computer.... ;=)
I plugged it in, mounted everything back and tested the roof, essentially it works both in opening and closing direction.
What does not work:
1. it does not finish full closing. When I close further using an allen key, also the rear windows go up electrically.
2. it does not finish full opening: the tonneau cover does not latch.
So essentially, I have reduced the open top issue to adjustment of the tensioner cables and closing of the tonneau.
