Default Convertible Top won't operate 2008 XKR

My battery drained from leaving the interier light on. After charging the battery, I knoked loose the track device that allows the top to be lowered/raised in the trump I've re-installed it several times but I beleive the proximity switch isn't activating. Does anyone know how to defeat the proximity switch so I can operate the top or at least see if this isn't the problem.

Not a problem. Do you think I can be a moderator again? Only kidding!

If the problem is the proximity switch on the luggage cover in the trunk, you will have the message: "LUGGAGE COVER OUT OF POSITION" on the information display near the speedometer. If you do not have this message, you have a different problem.

Is the trunk shut? The top will not operate with the trunk open.

And the problem may still be in the battery. If the battery happens to be the original one, it needs to be changed. These cars require full voltage at all times; if they do not get it, random symptoms, including problems with the electric top, windows, seats, door locks, touch screen etc. WILL occur. Permanent solution: installation of a battery minder such as the CTEK.

Also, if the battery was drained, and you charged it in the car while connected, you may need to disconnect and reconnect a battery terminal to reset the electronic modules properly. You will also then need to reset the windows and the parking brake per the Owner's manual.

Default Covertable Top Fixed!!!

Thank you everyone. By dissconecting the battery for 10 minutes, it reset and now it works again. THe battery is old (8 years) so I'll replace it to avoid this problem again.

Might as well replace it with an AGM battery and keep it hooked up to a battery maintainer. Glad you solved the problem!

yep. battery

once you replace it you will need to prolly re program everything too. so the top issue may pop up right after you change the battery too.. hence re-program your cat again! happened to me summer 2013 - good luck
