Default Coolant - Red or Yellow or combo

Ok, I searched everywhere and was looking into coolant. I know read your manual. I recently busted a coolant return hose (plastic) while changing the oil. Some coolant leaked out. I had some Premium Prestone (yellow) and just filled up the reserve tank. Now I find out that this was a no no. I have read do not combine the two different coolants. Any input would be great. And yes I am having the system flushed and replaced with the good orange coolant. What happens if you combine the two?

If were my car, I'd bite the bullet and pickup a gallon of coolant from Jaguar and be done with it. I just replaced all my plastic coolant hoses along with the OEM Jaguar coolant which set me back around $85 for the coolant. Make sure you get all of the old coolant out and if possible do a vacuum fill. It took me a few days of driving to get all the air out of the system.

do you mean Prestone Platinum? Not familiar with Premium Prestone and can't find it in a search. If it's the Platinum you're referring to, the product page says:
  • Universally works with all fluid colors; All OAT, POAT, HOAT & IAT; G05®, G11®, G12®, G12++®, G13®, G30®, G40®, & GG40®. For all engines & engine sizes, new and older engines.

prestone is what ford has to replace orange texaco/havoline xlc

no flush needed

Too much misinformation here.

Jags and Rovers need Dex-Cool, OAT coolant, typically orange. Mixing OAT with other types might be a problem depending on what it was mixed with. Brand and colour's NOT an accurate indicator of coolant type, read the bottle. Prestone Dex-Cool's always orange, not yellow.

prestone’s current coolant = ford yellow wss m97b57

drop in replacement for dexcool look at the transit tsb.

Yeah that's not Dex-Cool and NOT engineered for JLR engines....and if you think it's ok because Ford used to own JLR, it's not.

the aj133 was finished in 2006 😂

wss-m97-b44d is literally printed on the expansion tank

Mixing OAT / longlife of any colour with OAT / longlife of a different colour will never cause a problem.

The internet will tell you that mixing OAT with non-OAT antifreeze can cause a problem but I have never seen the slightest hint of any problem so, in my view, the internet is probably wrong. However, I would always stick with pure OAT if possible, whatever the colour.

This has got to be one of the most frustrating subjects that I have come across. Some information states dec cool and others state the pink g30 for modern Jaguar engines.

Default Preston Platinum Pic

After reading all the replies, I just went ahead and drained and replaced with Dex-Cool orange. My mechanic was replacing the coolant return hose so I just had him drain and replace the coolant too. Here is the pic of the Prestone that I used to top off the reserve tank. I drove home yesterday in 95 degree heat here in Houston. I can't afford to loose my car engine by mixing the coolant.

As I understand the coolant situation and I may be wrong but. here goes. The older yellow/green type coolant was basically what we used for years on the older steel engines. When aluminum engines started being used, Ford discovered they were having to replace engines under warranty because the coolant was destroying the aluminum head gaskets. Ford replaced my engine on a Taurus twice. The newer pink/orange/red type coolant is a special low silicate antifreeze and is specified by nearly everybody using aluminum engines and cyl heads.
It is known as long life coolant and usually (always?) comes premixed with spcial ion free water.

Antifreeze colours have varied widely over the years clear / yellow / blue / green / red / pink / orange and all flavours have been available in all the colours over the years so the colour really doesn't mean anything at all.
OAT / Long Life / Silicate-free antifreeze was introduced in the 1990's. Aluminium had been used in engines for decades before that and some of the pre-OAT antifreezes were developed specifically to be increasingly effective with aluminium although OAT was even better in this regard. Ford may have had a problem with their engines but it would not have been specifically related to IAT antifreeze although that might not have helped matters if that is what they were using.
The current OAT / Long Life / silicate free antifreezes are still available in many colours and I have personally used pink, clear and blue versions. I always buy the undiluted versions and dilute them 50:50 with distilled water.

Dex-Cool is a typical red/pink OAT long-life antifreeze branded by Vauxhall/Opel/General Motors. It will usually be more expensive than an identical antifreeze which is not branded by one of the big car manufacturers.
