So, Did the thermostat the other day. I was going to replace the temp sensor, then noticed it's on the back of the coolant manifold on the top front of the engine.
Obviously, the manifold needs to be removed to get to it. A bit of a PITA, what with the hoses on the manifold. But the job is clear.
Then it occurred to me that perhaps it's easier to pull the throttle body and do the temp sensor if it can be reached underneath the TB.
I must be misunderstanding your post - if the temp sensor is on the manifold at the front why would the TB (throttle body at the back of the engine) help in replacement?
Interesting, when I did mine (several years ago now), I replaced the plastic housing along with the thermostat, and the temp sensor came with it, all as one orderable part.
I want to KNOW ( -> read ) the temperature ... at least on my handy.
AND I would love to be informed at any time about the oil pressure and water level.
OK, so I drive "blind" and trust Jaguar Tech.

We have fitted an ODB gauge to the dash which continuously displays coolant temp and battery voltage as those are arguably the most important things to know. It can display loads of other things which you can scroll through if you wish.
Gents:
Early in the year, I threw a thermostat code, and finally pulled the trigger on an OBD reader. I will create a separate thread so as not to hijack this thread but having a Coolant Temp gauge
when I am racing around town is a stress reliever. Default gauges on my OBDLinkMX+, Coolant temp is great to see!

@ExKayRick many solutions out there. Glad you found one that you like. Consider adding it to this post and note there are even more links embedded within that one:

Yeah, makes sense. I looked for the manifold but wasn't thrilled with the cost from Jag. Lower cost Chinese out there, but who knows the quality of the thermostat and the sensor that comes with them? So, I did the thermostat since it's relatively easy, and now I don't want to pull the manifold since i don't plan to replace it. One thing that's interesting about the NA 4.2 engine is that even here is FL I almost never reach 100C, so the system runs pretty cool, and thus low pressure.
So, I'll toss the question out there one more time, then I'll give it a real careful exam and either pull the TB or the manifold. Did anyone dismount the TB to get at the back of the manifold where the temp sensor is? Thanks!

Thanks -- Bought it with 78K a couple of years ago. I'm PM'ing things, often earlier than they need. I got a couple of temp indicators over a few week, so I queued up the temp sensor and thermostat. Done the thermostat. Temp sensor is just in the queue. Trying to replace it without removing the manifold, so removing the TB seems like it might be less work. What do you think?
