Default Cost of oil change at Jaguar dealership?

Anybody know what Jaguar charges for an oil change on a 2010 XK?

I get mine done at Crown Jaguar in St. Pete FL. It's about $100. Besides the oil change they check everything else. It's a lot cheaper elsewhere but I like the peace of mind.

That's what I remember with my 2007 XK. But I heard that it's more expensive on the 2010 and forward 5.0 engines.

After I bought my Jaguar XKR (2009) and had it delivered (just like you), I took the car down to the local Jag dealer (60 miles away) and had an oil change, filter, and overall inspection of all fluids and general inspection of the car. I needed two new trunk lights as they were pulled out for some reason. Cost of everything was $120.00. The dealer set me up on their computer system. A few days later I checked on CarFax and CarFax had the service record of my oil change, filter and lamp replacement on the report. I liked that, so that Carfax had a continuing record of the service of the car in case I wanted to sell it in the future.

I then contacted a local shop with a long history working on foreign cars including Jaguar. They stated they would change the oil and filter for $90.00.

I use synthetic oil and believe that the car takes slightly over 7 quarts. I have purchased a K&N oil filter specific for the 2009 XKR that was $15.00 on-line.

I used Amsoil brand in my Formula F1000 race car and if going the independent route I will use the Amsoil brand for the Jag. I have yet to try to change the oil myself. I understand there is a plastic sheet under the engine area that has to be removed to gain access to the filter for removal.

Since it is a premium car, I don't mind paying the $100 or so. Materials alone are costly due to the synthetic oil costs. The Jaguar dealer insisted on using their own oil brands and filter.

Hope this helps.

I got a price from a Firestone dealer of $140. They used to do my 07 XK for around $70.

My mercerdes costs 150 a change but that's for like 10 quarts and only every 10K miles.

@Cee Jay is super fast, so let's assume it takes that Dealer's technician 30 minutes to do it. Both are 5.0L, and the dealer charges "close to 500 bucks". Let's say that the oil and filter cost $100, which leaves $400 for labor for 30 minutes work. That's at least $800 per hour!

But you get a free car wash! That's being taken to the (wallet) cleaners!

Are there any long term downsides to changing the oil repeatedly (with 10k km intervals, that is, over a couple of years) using only the suction technique?
By downsides I'd expect any filth gathering at the bottom of the sump that would be flushed together with old oil if it was drained instead of sucked.

Also, did anyone try adding Ceratec with oil change? Asking because it made noticeable positive difference in my other old BMW and wondered what's your take on this.

You can be the tester! Suck all your oil out, THEN pull the plug and see what comes out! Let us know!

Easy to prove it to yourself?
I have done it both ways and there only drips and drabs that come out the drain plug after you vacuum the oil out. Probably not even enough to get an accurate measurement.

So good enough for me!

My last one was $130. I just wish this thing had an actual dipstick so I could do it myself without guessing 😔

I’ve done it both ways. The tube’s so close to the bottom of the pan there’s really no difference other than it being easier to do from the top. One thing done right on this engine.

If you do as you should and always warm the engine up (and hence the oil as well) before you drain the old oil then there should be little or no sludge or gunge left at the bottom of the sump as any that was there has now been thoroughly mixed into the oil.
And as jahummer says there is SFA oil volume extracted difference between dump vs suck.

I dont understand how everyone is still getting last decade prices and yet I was literally forced to start changing my own oil due massive bills. Hell my dealership charged me 260 bucks to check to see if my battery was ok... HA! I could have just bought a new one??? What is my dealership charging Jaguar for maintenance oil changes is what Id like to know.

Interesting. My long relationship with a few specific dealers have been for the most part, positive.
(there are a very few that I’ve stopped in on during travels that I may not go back to)

Granted, its a couple of hundred bucks. But, they go over the whole car including underneath, they check the codes, they perform a road test and, they wash it up.
Even a hand car wash costs more than a hundred…

Seems like good value to me.

It's strange how it differs from country to country.

In Poland good quality hand wash is like 20-30 usd but changing the oil at dealership cost me 380 usd (I brought my own oil...)

Maybe it's location specific, I can get a typical exterior hand wash for $25-30 while a complete interior/exterior full detail is $150 for a two-door.
