I went through the Aston vs. GT-R vs. XKR debate earlier this year. For the same budget, I'd have had to buy an older Aston (2006/7 rather than 2010), and the servicing costs looked pretty high. The GT-R was startling, but a pain to drive around London streets; a very 'mechanical' feel and too firm even in Comfort mode. In the end, the XKR was the best compromise - better looking and more compliant than the GT-R, newer and cheaper to run than the Aston. I was just lucky to find the XKR 75, which is most of the way to being an R-S without the price tag.

I've had my 2010 XKR for a little over a year now. I purchased it with 37K miles on it and absolutely love the car. I think your maintenance costs are going to be proportional to how many miles you put on the car each year. Fortunately, my mileage is low with under 6,000 miles per year. Therefore, I have only needed one annual service in that time frame. I have had one problem and that was I needed the water pump replaced. It failed and the car would not start forcing a tow to the dealership but no out of pocket expense because warranty cover it. Other than that, it has been flawless. It is a very high quality and reliable car. You should not have any reservation about upkeep costs on an XKR from 2010 - 2013.

One thing I will say is that when people say their XKs are the most reliable cars they've ever had, you have to wonder how many miles they're putting on them. I'd wager that most X150 owners put many fewer miles on them than, say, Honda Accord owners put on their cars!

We have two cars in the household and we almost always use the other car for errands, etc.

Hummm
2.8 years of ownership, 28,000 miles since purchase(68K total), and I am shocked at how reliable the car is.... Always makes me wanna do the banana dance!
IMHO, the XK is wonderfully built, and I don't hesitate to toss her into a thousand mile trek with no more thought than oil and fuel...

Of my past 4 decades worth of cars and bikes (yeah, go ahead an laugh), only the Subaru, Lexus, and Civic rate better (in experienced reliability only)!

It wasnt an easy decision. Normally I am the type that goes for value for money, and that means great performance and reliability for the price. The jaguar has that, no doubt. And here in canada, a jaguar is still exotic.

But the real swaying decision was nothing more than the badge and the feeling I got when I was driving the Aston. I did even consider the nissan gtr, which could have been had in my price range.

I dont have extensive experience with cars ( i ride motorbikes, currently with a duc 848 SS). To be frank, the aston will be the first car I ever owned. Most of the cars I have driven have been **** boxes (hyundai etc) that I would rent for 40 dollars over the weekends.

My main worry is the maintenance costs, i did my reading on the aston forums, and the car I purchased has low kms and very good service history. It could go both ways, but what is life without those hard lessons?

At 27 years old, to be able to think to my self, "do I take the aston or the ducati". Just gives me that sense of accomplishment and reassurance that im doing something right with my life.

I'd like to hear more impressions on your Aston, it is a car I am considering for the next one.

I went from a V8V to an XKR... The XKR is better on paper in everyway. The Aston does drive better IF you're looking for a sports car. The $5500.00 clutch is a killer though....

To my earlier point, for me, buying a vehicle isn't about how it is on paper. I have a ducati 848 supersport, sure I could have gone jap which is cheaper and quicker, but there is just something special about owning a ducati and riding it. I do ride spiritedly however, never take it to 100%. So for me, going zero to 100kph doesnt matter if I can do it 1/10 of a second quicker or not.

I took delivery of the aston yesterday and I am still in shock

Enjoy it! We al have different means and preferences. That being said - any cars talked about in this thread are amazing in their own right and I'd be happy to be behind the wheel of any of them!

Absolutely AWESOME car.

I love the lines, so smooth.

You should be one proud parent of such a beautiful new child.

Enjoy the ride.

You're a priviledged person to own one of these premium automobiles.

Yup! Missing that clutch pedal as well. Sweeting looking Aston. There was an identical looking one for sale locally. Must be a popular color combo.

It was hard for me to find one tastefully done. I avoided any aston with 20" rims, and mods.

I wanted a car as stock as possible.

Good for you on wanting to buy a stock Aston Martin. So many people buy these premium cars then literally fxxk them up with modifications. The beauty lies in just the way Aston Martin or Jaguar designed these cars.

WOW! Love dem Astons...soooo much class. I remember the first time I saw one in person...couldn't keep my eyes off of it, even tho I was surrounded by Ferraris and Lambos at the time. Well done.
And yes please give us your honest thoughts on the car a bit later, after you've put the spurs to her a few times!
