I'm pretty sure the problem you are experiencing has occurred with others. Use the search box in the upper right corner of this page and you probably will find what you are looking for. To get a better idea of the part numbers and a diagram down load the shop manual. You can find a link to that in the stickies at the top of this page as well. Good luck.

One of the threads on this issue has a link to a Jaguar bulletin that covers how to replace the "sliding panel" in a little more detail than the manual. But going by your photo, I can see a problem you need to fix immediately. The bulletin states the opening for the panel must be 89mm. Yours looks like its pinched at the end to much less than that. I recently replaced my panel and I could only get mine to 88mm though. If I made it 89mm I was afraid it would pop out. With the spacing correct, the panel should immediately retract once tension on the string is removed, if it is sticking at all - the top mechanism will damage the panel during closing and possibly break the track it rides in. My track was broken, but I was able to glue it back together - and reinforce it - with original jb weld glue.
You need to make certain all the bolts are tightened properly. Especially the one with the washer that controls the adjustment in back. You may want to consider adding an additional sheet metal screw to prevent the adjustable bolt from ever moving (once it is properly set). But again, looking at your photo, because the inboard side gap is not parallel, I would also check to make certain it is positioned correctly, not hung up, or missing a bolt - your gap should not be at an angle like that.
Good luck.
