Thumbs up Custom Installed Radar Detectors

I have an Escort 9500 custom installed in my car. The head unit and display are in the ashtray area and can be hidden by the ashtray cover door. I find it to be the most useful radar detector & laser jammer I've ever used. I haven't seen any threads about this topic so I wondered how many of you have a permanently installed radar detector in your car, where it's installed, and your experiences with them.

In my old X100 I had a professional install of a bel550 installed behind the front grill and a speaker into the cabin.

Not illegal in the UK to use a detector but a jammer's an offence

Happy with my dashcam and tracker as believe what the great man once said, namely "If you have to break the speed limit, you should have left earlier!"

I finally threw out two units I had. The latest technology in cars with their radar safety systems triggered my units to much so it wasn't worth getting anything new . The more safety stuff being installed in modern cars will continue to improve and with that the detectors will become obsolete. Considering I only drive maybe 5 mph over the limit I'm usually not a target. No need to rush anymore so we just enjoy the ride.

No worries with the Escort 9500 as it is not a radar jammer. It is not as effective as the Escort 360. I have rune both side by side either side of the screen any closer and one will set off the other. The Max 360 is way better.
Neither is any good with the Dragon laser some police use.

I used to repair different Escort radar detectors and would test them after repair.

As a point of interest around my part of the country I know several people who have received speeding tickets but they have never been convicted of speeding. Around here they reduce it to a non moving violation with no points and just increase the fine. Pretty much a revenue maker . Now if you are outrunning a LEO or if you are doing 30-50 mph over the limit then you have a problem.

I was getting some false alarms from the newer cars that have the side collision avoidance. I disabled X-band (as it's not really used in my area anymore) and I very rarely encounter false alarms. Plus as a further measure with my unit, I can lock out any problem location (like an alarm system that triggers it,) either manually or automatically by muting it 3 times in the same general location. Mine is GPS aware. As the speed limits are often set arbitrarily low (35-40 mph) in my area and prevailing traffic is usually going 45-50 mph, I like to be aware of my surroundings, and when I'm coming up on a monitored area. I love being alerted to set my ASL if needed too.

I'm referring to units that are installed into the car, not suctioned to the windshield. Which ones did you toss? Seems to me that installed units have a better over capability due to the full sized components used, versus the compact units hanging by the rear view mirror. They use much larger sensors and shifters.

How kind of them, but the fine is nothing compared to what the insurance company will do to you. In this area, 20 mph over the limit is a criminal offense, so if you're doing 30+ over you may be going to jail for a timeout. Trying to outrun a LEO guarantees jail and loss of license.

It's really rare that one "has" to speed in an XKR.

It's probably not quite as rare if one didn't at least "want" to.

I remember in my childhood (60's and 70's) always amazed that when on motorways I would see Jaguar's/Bentley's/Jaguars & Rolls Royce's pootling along in the first/slow lane, I remember thinking with my adolescent brain "All that power and they are going so slowly...why?

It wasn't until got into my 30's that I realised it wasn't because they couldn't drive fast or were trying not to burn fuel but:

WHEREVER THEY WERE GOING PEOPLE WOULD WAIT FOR THEM!

Sorry to shout
