Smile Dashboard Vent Clip

Hi,

Hoping someone can help me. My 2007 XK, passenger side dashboard vent has somehow lost its vent tab that allows you to change direction of the fins. Can these be bought separate or do I need to replace whole vent?

Thanks

You must replace the entire DASH.

Well, maybe not, but you can't buy even just the vent. Maybe try a breaker's yard, or search for used parts on any of a dozen different websites.

Passenger side on a LHD or RHD? About $80 on Ebay and it looks like you have to remove the passenger side wood dash trim to get to 2 screws. I could be wrong but thats what it looks like from the photos online.

Replacing the vent assembly is the hard way. Here's the easy way.

Ford owned Jaguar, and Jaguar used lots of parts from the Ford bin to save money.

Search Ebay for 2007 Ford dashboard vents and look closely at the little adjusting tab. It doesn't matter if the vent assembly is exactly the same shape as yours because all you want is that adjusting tab. Buy the cheapest one you can find that matches yours. Simply pull that tab off the vent assembly and snap it on your vent (put a drop of epoxy on it so it doesn't fall off). No need to remove and replace the vent assembly.

A repair doesn't get much easier!

I found this on Ebay:

https://www.ebay.com/itm/2007-JAGUAR...-127632-2357-0

I'd buy it because I didn't find any Ford or Lincoln vents with a similar tab that were any cheaper.

You will have to remove the veneer panel to access the vent fixings:

A plastic trim tool is required to prise it from the clips (arrowed in RED) without damage followed by removal of the two torx screws (arrowed in BLUE).

Your IP Address indicates your location is Edinburgh so one of the specialist UK Jaguar breakers such as Eurojag in Darlington may have a used vent assembly. I can only find RH listed on ebay UK.

He doesn't have to replace the vent. Simply remove the tab from the RH Ebay vent and snap it onto the existing LH vent.

Sure, that Ebay vent isn't cheap. But I think it's worth the cost just to get the correct tab and not have to replace the vent assembly.

Stuart,

The OP is in Scotland. International shipping from the US and UK Customs clearance would make that a very expensive solution.

Thanks for posting the pic. I understand the issue and which vent and Graham already covered your options in post 10. Here's the only right side one on eBay UK from the US and it at least shows you the cost to ship. Yikes.

Hi Graham,

Thanks for clarifying that for me.

My point remains unchanged. Buy a used replacement vent but don't install it. Just remove the tab and install it on the existing vent.

Ebay.UK lists several X150 dashboard air vents. I'd ask the seller for a shipping quote and get a delivered price quote from Forum sponsor SNG Barratt.

Happy New Year!

Stuart

I wouldn't be happy with that since the OEM tab has chrome trim.

Bend a paper clip into an oblong, press it into the JBWeld.

These are available out there. google "dashboard vent adjuster". If they're the right size, you can replace all of them for a match across the dashboard.

An example:
Amazon Amazon

I found some for one of my BMW's. If you look around, you should be able to find some.

Well done! That is the inexpensive solution!

Ford owned Jaguar. This might work for your 2007 XK.

I tried to copy the link to Amazon but it didn't work. Go to Amazon and search for "Vent Tabs for Ford".
