Didn't Need Battery
Brought the Jag to the dealer today cause I was sure I needed a battery. Had to jump start the car last week. A friend put a tester on it and said I needed one. The dealer reprogrammed a control module and told me that was the problem. Also the other day when I went for a ride I got a warning light on the dash blinking, Active Front Lighting System. I thought it was because of a low voltage battery. The light was off when I took the car in today. Was told it was not because of low voltage but it was a Headlamp Leveling Control Module that caused the light to come on. Electrical Gremlins! The light is off for now BUT if it goes bad the dealer said the module is around $2500.00!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! So today I spent $432 to get it reprogrammed and to change the oil and filter. If I had put the battery in myself (which I was tempted to do) it would have been a waste of money and would not have solved the problem. High end cars need high end diagnostics.

Well, you may not believe this but...dealers very often do not recognize the signs of a failing battery. They sometimes prefer to throw new parts on the car rather than thinking the problem through. The history you give of a flat battery and subsequent warning lights strongly indicates a battery problem. The best money you will spend is on a new, FULLY CHARGED battery...and please note that new batteries are almost never fully charged.

You might want to view the myriad of threads on this forum about the need for a strong fully charged battery and kept on a maintainer. The Expert Techs on this site have written it countless times. Regardless of your belief in your dealer, have an auto parts store test your battery. They do it at no charge. If they recommend replacing it, do so, then put in on a charger for a day before installing. The auto parts store will probably do that for you as well.
Once installed, buy a battery maintainer and use it. You WILL spend less time at a dealer and more time on the road.

I keep my Jag on a CTEC charger maintainer all the time. That's why I was surprised when the car would not start but the lights worked. I was told by the dealer that the battery has 920 cranking amps which is more than the required 800. So I hope I'm good. If by chance I have more problems I purchased a battery box to carry with me. So I hope I don't need a battery (yet). Time will tell.

hafren,
I don't know the codes BUT on my copy of the invoice it states: TESTED FOR ANY CODES FOUND NONE. CHECK BULLETINS FOUND JTB00213 FOR BATTERY MAY BECOME DISCHARGED FOR NO REASON. FOLLOW BULLETIN JTB00213 TO UPDATE SOFTWARE FOR INFOTAINMENT CONTROL MODULE.
Pretty bizarre stuff.

When I purchased my 07 XKR weird **** was the norm. Took it to a battery shop, they tested it, said it was good to go. NOT... replaced the battery, put it on a maintainer and no battery related issue's since. Most of the weirdness also disappeared. Battery, battery, battery. Or not, your call.
