Differences in headroom in x150???

Hi All!
When test driving XK and XKRs I noticed that the convertible has a small amount of additional headroom. I am 6ft tall and the headroom in the XKR coupe that I drove recently felt quite tight. This car was equipped with the seats that included all the electronic adjustments, i.e. the ones with approx. 5 buttons on the door panel, but not the race seats.
However some weeks ago I drove another XK coupe with the standard leather seats that have only 3 buttons on the door panel and I do not recall that I found the headroom particularly tight.
Could it be that if you went for the optional all features seats that you loose a bit of headroom? Because the additional motors and mechanics need some space under the seat....?
Regards

When you were comparing cars, are you sure that you had the seats adjusted exactly the same? Seatback angle makes a big difference in headroom. You might have to move the seat forward, and have your knees bent a bit more, in order to recline the seatback to give you enough headroom. Seatback angle becomes reduced the more you move the seat back.

Thanks!
In fact in the XKR with optional seats I was checking out various positions as you describe with more or less recline.
I just think to recall that with the standard seat XK I drove some weeks ago, I did not feel so much the need to find a seating position with enough headroom.

Thanks all!!
@Dave
Do you have the seats with 3 buttons or the ones with more setting options featuring 5 buttons?
I did make sure to check using the largevertical horizontal button to move the seat all the way down. In fact I also moved it up then down again to be really sure.

Yes, 5 Buttons (16-way adjustable).. the other smaller horizontal button (above the one that moves seat fore/aft+up/down) moves just the seat base fore and aft and it could also affect overall height. I consider myself a normal build (not all legs or all torso) and I would have no problem with a helmet on inside my car.
Also be aware the larger button we have been discussing will raise/lower just the front or rear of seat if you don't press down on it evenly.
I think you should maybe try it again, I promise you the rest of the car makes it worth a re-visit of the possible seat/head clearance issue.
Cheers,
Dave

Thanks again to all of you! I will again go to see additional car to figure out why I had this headroom issue when many of you people are ok at 6’2” and more. In particular to see whether it makes a difference if it’s a car with standard seats or the optional 16 way seats.
Kind regards!

I have the seat all the way down in the back, and most of the way up in the front, helps keep me in place under braking if need be.
Seats can wear in, the aftermarket seats I got for my Corvette put me into the roof, I leave a set of XKR-S front brake rotors sitting in the seat when I'm gone, it helps with the issue the next time I get in as the seat cushion is compressed.

Hi all
As also explained above. Wear may be an additional factor.
Today I drove an XK Coupe with standard 10 way seats, which had about the triple mileage than the XKR mentioned above (XKR with 16 way seats) and there was maybe one finger width more space above my head in the older XK. However the difference is rather minuscule and therefore difficult to tell whether there really is a difference between 10 and 16 way seats or if it is wear resulting in a more compressed seat cushion in the older car.

I can go from plenty of room when tired, to head touching roof and need to re-adjust seat back angle when rested.
I do not think other people go through quite as much change as I do as they have more regular lives.

Discussing the headroom matter with a colleague, he very rightly mentioned that slightly less headroom could also be the result of the cooling seat option: the vent below the seat needs some space!
And in deed, for this theory’s sake, the XKRs that I felt have a little bit less headroom had both the 16 way seats AND THE COOLING SEAT OPTION on board.
Any opinions on this?
