Default Dim Dashboard Lights

Hi Folks,

I have a 2009 XK, only 27k miles. The central display which (should) show the clock, fuel gauge, etc is so dim it can not be read during daylight and is barely visible at night. Once in a while it will suddenly brighten for no apparent reason, but always go back to being too dim to read. Has anyone dealt with this? Thanks!

Not me ...... but perhaps a loose harness connection on the Instrument Pack or a faulty dimmer rheostat?

Mine tends to be dim when first started, especially if it's cold outside; it does brighten up as I'm driving, takes about 5-10 minutes till it's easily readable. I'm guessing it's age related.

Rheostat seems OK...was hoping to avoid climbing under the dash!

There is at least one other thread in here regarding this exact scenario. Maybe a Forum search is prudent. Also, a Google search for a topic usually points back TO this forum.

There is a thread that suggests that a possible way around this issue is to turn Auto off on the brightness control on the central display screen menu and set it to high.I found this helped as my screen was often dim especially when cold outside.

Thanks for the suggestion. I had actually tried that previously and it improved the brightness of the touch screen (another lousy technology by the way!) but didn't affect the display between the gauges. Looks like I may be headed down that dreaded black hole AKA Jaguar electronics!
