Default Direct fit vs weld on cats

There is a direct fit cat non high flow that I'm looking at, as well as a high flow weld on that is also vehicle specific. Anyone had any good or bad experience welding in a "universal type" cat? Feel free to throw out company names of cats also (no need to tell me about the $1700 magnaflow high flow cats). Rough idle + p0430 code + 13 year old car = new cats and sensors.

errr, it might work out for you…. But not on my car thanks. It was difficult enough getting the system working correctly as it is with the O2 sensors, MAF sensors, bungs, etc. I’ve got the 100 cell options. And they sound great too.

I used DEC direct fit 400cell. Had some fitment/exhaust leak issues the first time because the mounting flange had a seam weld right on the matting surface and wouldn't seal fully onto the exhaust manifold. Had to file down the seam on both till it was flush.

They are probably the cheapest ones you can get, and you can see why. But they sound great!

What's the cell count on original OEM cats?

I believe they are 1 part 600 and 1 part 400 with the downstream O2 sensor between the 2 parts.

100 cells + x-pipe .. codes turned off/deleted in matching tune to suit the mods .

100s are loud would be more inclined to go 200s or 400
