DIY supercharger oil change

That's an innovative way to change the oil but having pulled the supercharger on a 2012 XF, I'd say it would be easier to go that route. The XKR look like it has a little more room at the back of the engine (the XF is very tight and you have to remove the scuttle panel, wipers, etc.). Of course you incur additional costs for the gaskets etc. but you can then change out the rear heater manifold and the hose under the superchargers while doing the oil.

Superb write-up and shows real British ingenuity (you not the engine design!)!
I have to get a new pulley nose coupler fitted to mine, since the SC needs to come out for that, I'll be getting my local Indy to change the oil and bearings too.
Thanks again for making the impossible possible

It does show the British approach to things, 'put the kettle on, we will find a way'
Engine design has British ingenuity too, they found a way of adding a drain plug left omitted by the last idiot.

I'm getting things ready to do winter maintenance on my 14 XKR. Transmission fluid/filter, e-diff fluid change, radiator flush, engine oil change, air filter change and this. This looks painful. Is changing the supercharger oil necessary? The color of the oil in the OP's images makes me think so. Is there an easier way?

George, do you have a possible link or part # for the SC oil you used? Do you recall the fill amount or is it just fill up to fill hole?
On another thread someone suggested that a lot of owners were buying 2 bottles of the following GM oil because it is the best price...
Thx,
Aaron

Thanks George. My car only has 21,000kms (14,000 miles). I will have this done at the same time I change the water pump, if necessary. Once the top of the engine is off the opportunity to service everything is made available (hoses, water pump, supercharger oil change, etc.). I realize my car has low mileage, I'm in no hurry to do this work; however, as time increases contaminates cause damage. If I keep this car for more than 2 years I'll have all of the above done at the same time. The easy fluid changes I'll do this winter (engine oil, brake fluid change, e-diff, transmission, coolant flush, power steering?). It was a pleasure reading your post and observing your tenacity to get the job done. Kudos to you!

oil is from a UK company called Powerhouse and they sell on ebay. cant remember the amount in the bottle they supply sure its around 200ml comes with large syringe and small amount of 3mm tube about 5-6inch long . its not enough . i had to buy a yard of it for a couple of dollars from auto shop then cut to size. And you will need to fit a drink straw or similar inside the tube with a bend on it , i done that slowly on the gas hob , then tape it up as you do not want that falling inside the supercharge unit eeekk. I am sure i removed less than i put in , Leaving me to suggest i caught it in time . but you cant over fill due to the Drain plug any excess will simply flow out . it is a right PITA of a job to do. much to the fact of that wiring harness in the way . if you are going to attempt it get very long and thin tools before you attempt it . supercharged oil kit cost Ł26 or $30 dollars . a garage or dealer would charge a fair amount due to the man hours involving on them striping out the supercharged unit

Don. have a look around the forum , lots of good advice on here . normally the supercharged unit has to be removed from the 5l cars to replace the oil inside . your Range rover would be the same engine unless the older 4.2l version. I am sure jaguar go down the same route as the transmission box saying the super charge unit is seal for life but cant be certain. others will advice to that . post any questions you have it is the best jaguar forum online all the best and enjoy your car
