Dongle for SDD

Dongle for SDD
I purchased this DA dongle from Amazon because it says it works with Landrover scans. I talked to the guy and he said it would work with my 06 Rover and 07 XK. Has anyone used this one?
I know some on here have said they use the J2354 dongle(which is what this is) and they got it for much cheaper than the Mongoose cable. Just wondering if everyone is getting something different from what I found.

It's the correct number, J2534, so it MAY work. It doesn't seem to be any cheaper than an original Diagnostics Associates one (which is where the "DA" comes from), but who knows??? May be perfect.
HOWEVER......
No SDD software? Just a diagnostic tool with 'software"???? I dunno man, seems cheesy to me. FORD uses a program called FORSCAN, totally different than SDD, like not even one byte is similar.

J2534 is an interface standard designed by the SAE (Society of Automotive Engineers). The purpose was to create an API (Application Programming Interface) which allows the independent aftermarket the ability to reprogram ECM’s without being tied to the manufacturer's special dealer-only tool.
There's two levels of J2534:
1. J2534-1 defines features for a basic device that performs reprogramming of emission ECM's.
2. J2534-2 defines optional features for a device that additionally performs reprogramming on other non-emission modules.
Many low cost interfaces satisfy J2534-1. Once you go to J2534-2 interfaces, the cost escalates.
For example, compare the coverage of the Diagnostic Associates offerings. Two interfaces suitable for JLR. The fully functioned option is twice the cost:

I have SDD on my laptop. For some reason when I go to login to the JLR SDD it ask me for my Topix login which I put in and then it ask me for my locksmith username and password. That's where I get stumped. I've been in contact with Topix but talking to them over email is like talking to someone when you're in another country.

Cee Jay, which version are you using? I have 159 and have no clue how to use it offline. I have a feeling the dongle I'm trying to use won't work but I'm getting close. I have Topix engineer, the people I bought my dongle from and one other website guy helping me.

There's two ways to run SDD:
1. OFFICIAL: current version 1.59.07- online with a TOPIx subscription
2. PIRATED: version 1.50 or earlier - offline and cracked (I've seen later cracked versions advertised but note the limitation below)
From version 1.51 Jaguar changed delivery of SPA (Single Point Authoring). SPA and VDF (Vehicle Defibition Files) files are no longer included in version updates on the Diagnostic Delivery Server but are now automatically requested and downloaded as they are required.
SDD is free to download and install from the JLR server:
Index of /265935/idscentral
It will run for a maximum 24 hours before requiring a subscription.
