So I just have to vent . When I lived in the Midwest I could go for years without door dings . In comparison in California seems like ppl are careless. As soon as I start using xkr as daily driver , go to the beach a few weekends, I get door dings. wtf? Is it really that difficult not to hit another's person car when opening a door? If I park farther away , there is always some smart *** that will park right next to my car.. I can't win here ... 😤😑😐
I'm afraid to drive my kitty to anywhere where it may be sitting alone for too long. I am afraid of door dings, being keyed or having some idiot driving through the parking lot not paying attention and running into it. I do park far, far away when I go anywhere though. Typically, I just drive it when I'm going to a friend's house who has a driveway or if I'm just taking it for a drive.
Ha, that is funny, just had that happen the other day. Out for lunch with the Wife, ended up in a back row where no other cars were. We came out later and only one other car parked in the 20 empty spaces right next to me, I had a mild rant like Vic. Mrs. Tampamark looked at me like I was a child having a tantrum. Plus it was a beater with child seats in it, didn't ding me but still found it irritating.
In the end it is just a car and an expendable item for me.
they do it on purpose, its redneck jealousy. Carry a small can of wd40, spray that inconspicuously on their windshield. Watch them spend hours trying to get it off.
There is ONE thing about California that promotes door dings..... all the parking lots are smaller and more compact than nearly every other state. Parked cars are closer together and since less actual spaces, the ones there are packed full.
You should live in the UK! Here the parking bays are designed for Minis. Only this week, at the train station parking lot I parked centrally between the bay lines in my X-Type and could not open the front doors to get out of the car due to cars parked either side of me (no other space available). I had to squeeze out through an almost impossible gap and this resulted in me getting my clothes dirty as it was, as usual in the UK, raining and the car was dirty as a result. I imagine that S. California, being densely populated like the UK is, has a scarcity of land which makes parking lot designers create the smallest possible spaces (to maximise their revenue) even though this causes untold damage to the cars parked there. In most cases in the UK, I don't think it is careless or thoughtless drivers that cause the dings - just people trying to get out of their cares in impossibly tight spaces. I am slim, but if I had been overweight it would have been impossible to exit the car. Whenever I visit the States I am always impressed as to how wide the parking bays (usually) are!
Sometimes the Steve Klonsky remote top control will allow me to get into my vert when some a**hole parks unbelievably close making it very difficult to get in. I just lower the top, get in with a minimally opened door and go. Usually I park in an end spot. that way only one side can get dinged.
I dunno. I think Florida is worse. I have been sitting in my car while old ladies in SUVs bounce their doors off my fenders. I'm unsure if they are oblivious to what they are doing,
or well past the age of giving a **** about anyone else. As to the park far away...see photo...obviously I was there first.
P.S. That reminded me of when I worked as a Procurement Officer in the Electronic Warfare and Atmospheric Sciences Division at the US Army Signal Corps HQ in 1967. I was part of the team that developed the system that enabled a moving tank to make a first round hit on a moving target, which was unheard of at that time. Gotta give that bird a lot of credit for accuracy!

Reason: Added P.S.
This bird had his eyes on world's most expensive target, and took his best shot! Good hit! Did I spell shot and hit right?
