Default DRL / turn sig mod for 2010 XK

Going to finally give in and go with LED look.
Because the incandescent t10 is simply too dim to function as a DRL- nowadays.

The turn signal is also looking bizzare these days because the orange bulb even when off gives a orange reflection thats kinda too old-timey for this car.

Especially next to the ultra-modern adaptive headlights

See porsches looks less busy

Studied several options. I think the thin sharp continuous led is a possibility, by making an piece of plexiglass that sits under the light and above the bumper and one can mount an led strip to it in the back. But all too needlessly complicated.

There is another option: Replacing the turn signal bulb with the bulb pictured below, it will do both be a DRL and switch over to an amber turn signal when activated. Its perfect because the heat will be outside the assembly and cooled. And it fits our socket, and the wiring is a breeze. The only problem is I dont know where to find it. I only found the picture.

You know you can get "silver" indicator bulbs that will get rid of the orange look?

Ironically, the rear lights in the 2007-2009 X150 have those exact silver indicator bulbs in them from the factory, why they put the orange ones in the front, I will never know...

Oh and that picture is watermarked, China Wholesale LED| LED| LED Headlight| High Power LED| HID| HID Kit| China HID, it's a Chinese wholesale website for automotive components...

Or a google image search brings up this supplier 6G-H10W-CR-10W/Y_ANYCAR TECH INT'L CO., LIMITED

Reading the technical description I don't think they will do what you want them to anyhow "Color changed within 10 seconds through the power supply switch, and 10 seconds back to white after power off"

Doesn't sound right...

As always, million thanks Cambo.
No I did not know about the silver bulbs.

This bulb seems to be ideal. And it is available on Ebay.

Whats good about this one is that you are not changing the beam pattern from what Jaguar intended. Because all light will come from the reflector. Then again you will not get that pencil point led look of the latest generation of DRL.

The factory complied with US Federal law.

Hey Stuart I suspect the orange reflector on the side is there for the same reason?

Get a sheet of this, wrap it around a ring on either end, you'll now get a rod with a diffused light out put.

There is aready the orange W5W side marker light in there, which should cover the US legal requirement, plus the orange reflector, I don't see why the indicator bulb needs to be orange when it's not lit.

By that rationale fitting an LED in place of the orange glass bulb would also not comply with your laws, since it's not orange when it's not lit.

The factory fit Silvervision bulbs in the rear indicators on the cars up to 2009MY are orange when lit, silver when not.

Can't wait to pull the headlights out of mine and lose all the orange crap (that includes the reflectors which will be going awol).

You worried at all about not getting a watertight seal back on?
While you are at it, take some 3m clear film, the pro grade as its called in America, and put that on your lenses. Its absolutely optically clear. I did one side at a time and you simply cannot tell.

I am also considering doing a wrap around the lense where only the two round reflectors are left open.

Q&C,
I can't read the watermark on the bulbs you've shown. Can you provide a link?
I, too, was wondering about waterproofing, but I don't understand how the wrap will provide waterproofing, or is that only to protect the outside lens?

Wrair,
What I am proposing does not require taking the headlight assembly apart.

Cambo wants to get rid of the orange reflector on the inside of the assembly, that will require breaking the seal to the best of my knowledge.

The wrap is protection that you absolutely must have for lenses. Its the clear bra material. People put a clear bra on the paintwork, which can easily be painted for $400. The lense assembly is over a grand each and they will get cloudy long before you have stone-chips that are noticeable. They get cloudy from micro scratches and water siting in those scratches.

Link for the bulbs.

I put silver bulbs in mine then wrapped the light to cover the orange bit and give it more of the 2012 style look. I thought it looked nice on my car but it would be much better on black, because I couldnt get a wrap to match the silver. I think Powerhouse did something similar as well.

I'm curious what sort of price point people would be looking for here.

Also potential features.

For example, photo metric data of the original bulb could be taken, and imitated with the control module for the LED stepping the output of the LED as if it were a regular bulb. The style in the head light when you look at it would be different, but it would still have the rapid fade up and fade down of a bulb rather than strobe.

I sort of think the "aftermarket" marker would prefer an instant on/off to radiate that your car is different and new, but I throw this out there.

These are what I fitted. Bought from AliExpress. Do exactly what you wanted. I added a relay so the only operate when the headlights are off.

Great to see this subject going up.
@Cambo did you finally get rid of the crapy orange reflectors ? if yes how did you do?
they definitely are aging the car And I'm trying to figure how to get rid of them.
