Default Dumb Coolant Reservoir question

'09 XK convertible NA:

So I'm replacing the coolant reservoir because I have the typical leak where the bottom hose comes in. Get everything taken apart - the part that takes the most time is taking all the coolant out with a baster.
Figured out I needed to loosen the strut support to slide the old tank off. Feeling pretty smug at this point.

Then as I'm unwrapping the new tank from the bubble wrap it came in, I lose control and drop it. Right on the fitting that the bottom hose attaches to, and I broke the darned thing. Dumbest move ever.

That wasn't my question - I just told that story to make you feel better about yourself at my expense. Here's my question - the NEW coolant reservoir has a sensor in the bottom - the OLD one that I took off hte car does not - it has the fitting for the sensor, but nothing is in it. I don't think the NA had the temp sensor here - it's somewhere in a coolant line. Is that correct?

Thank you.

The sensor in the reservoir is not a temperature sensor, but rather a fluid level sensor to let you know if the reservoir fluid level is dropping too low. The temperature sensor is located in the thermostat housing at the front of the engine.

Hence you can remove the fluid level sensor from the new reservoir before installation.

I don't think there is a level sensor in the 07-09 reservoir. I think that's for 2010 onward, no? I don't have one in my 07.

It's not a temp. sensor it is for fluid level. I believe the later model cars use this and they no longer make the older style tanks.

YES - Fluid Level Sensor (item 6):

Interesting to see the number of revisions on the Expansion Tank. It's been superseded 5 times with the current C2P25607 listed as fitting all N/A and S/C from B32753.

My 08 XKR does not have a level sensor. The reservoir does not even have anywhere to fit it. And there are no wires anywhere near it.

You are correct and the tank was updated for the 5.0 cars. It is the same tank as it will fit all models . They stopped making the older style tank.
