Default Early XK (X150) production

In exploring the build date for my MY'07 convertible, I have been looking throughout the web trying to find when the first of the new XKs were actually built. There were car reviews in the Spring of '06, so those at least must have been built over the winter of '05-06. So I thought I'd just get a "survey" going to see who has the earliest from the forum. In a trivial sort of way, I think it would be interesting to know, both overall and by country. I'm sure its not mine any stretch, but I'll get it started. I suggest 4 pieces of info, Model, VIN (last 6), date card on the door jam (for USA at least), and FordEtis lookup.
https://www.etis.ford.com/vehicleRegSelector.do

Note: the build date shown in the FordEtis is in the European rather than American format. For example mine, 02.05.2006 is May 2, NOT Feb 5.

2007 XK Convertible
VIN B04390
Door 04/06
Etis 02.05.2006

Cheers, Mark

The earliest electrical diagram document I have is for VIN B00379 to B09096 - based purely on that, I'd guess 379 is the earliest VIN sold.

XKs were on sale here in the UK in 2006.

That's interesting Ngarara. I wonder if Jaguar has some sort of protocol for where they start their numbers, besides 001, at the beginning of production, or production year. I presume so. Just another one of life's mysteries, I suppose.

The VIN's also tell you the model year

2006.5MY From (V) B00379
2007MY From (V) B06784
2008MY from (V) B20075
2009MY from (V) B27987
2010MY from (V) B32753
2011MY from (V) B38854
2012MY from (V) B44940
2013MY from (V) B48620
2014MY from ????

The first 377 VIN's were probably assigned to prototypes, test mules and cars that were crash tested. Other models also start at odd numbers e.g. the X350 XJ from G00442.

But the newer cars start at 1... the XF from R00001, the X350 XJ from V00001, the F-Type from K00001... I dunno...

You can put older plates on UK cars if i'm not mistaken, as a personal plate.

I know a guy in the UK with a 2004 XJR, he kept the plates from his previous car as it had his intitials in the plate. So it's a 51 plate on a 2004 built car.

Maybe the owner of that XK did the same thing?

Just bought a part off eBay where the 'donor' 2007 XK was listed as having a VIN ending with B00147. The seller is in Michigan.

When I get back to a 'real' computer (instead of my phone), I'll do a VIN lookup on the whole VIN and see if it's legit.

08961 is mine. If you notice, the early 06 models, have a different pattern in the seats.

Really, what difference have you seen? All I've seen is the two styles. Non perforated, without luxury package; and perforated, with luxury package. That's in the U.S.. Mine is the perforated, from 04/06.

Not to hijack the thread- but this is a similar question. Have the last of the 2015MY cars been produced? Do you know what the range of VINs for 2015 is?

As Cambo mentioned, he thought the first 377 cars were probably crash tested/prototypes/etc. You said there was a part on eBay from this car, so perhaps this fits with Cambo's theory and it was a crash tested car or something similar that was parted out?

That's an early build date (13 Jan 2006). There may be a clue at the top of the 'Minor Features' list: "Marketing Level 1", something I haven't seen on other build lists. This may have been a pre-release car that was sent to the US for marketing purposes, e.g. for a show.

Pre-production cars have been sold to customers too. I remember someone here on the forum had an S-Type R that had a build date that was "too early".

I was chatting with a guy who used to work for JLR in vehicle testing, he told me that some of the cars he tested went on to be sold as "dealer used" vehicles.
