Are you within the 6000 miles/6 months of warranty coverage?
Did you review your “warranty” contract for the details?
What conversation did you have with the dealer who sold you the car and the warranty?

@Airbornecat . March right back into that dealer and demand some support with the warranty they sold to you. The worry should be on their shoulders... not yours.
While you're at it, write Jaguar Head Office in NJ, the UK and Customer Support.

What does Jaguar Corporate HQ have to do with an Axiom extended service contract? It's not a Jaguar CPO warranty, and it's from a company unrelated to Jaguar. Just because it was sold by an independent authorized Jaguar dealer, doesn't mean that Jaguar Corporate has any responsibility.

In my post #4, above, I said: "... your best approach would be through the Jaguar dealer who sold it to you. He's your strongest advocate for getting Axiom to pay up because he sells a lot of those contracts and they're very high profit products."

The first thing you need to do is to NOT PANIC! What does your contract call for? You have not given us any indication as to what Axiom is required to do in order to fulfill their part of the bargain. Stuart is correct. The dealership that sold you the contract should be advising you as to what to do. If you get signs that the "insuror" or warranty company is going to try to welsh then you probably will need legal advice. But find out what the contract says make a record of all the preventive steps you took and act rationally.

On September 16, the OP asked for our advice. On September 17, I explained what he should do and why, and my thanks to all of you who agreed with me.

The OP said nothing about his efforts to get the Jaguar dealer to be his advocate to get Axiom to pay.

Yesterday, September 22, the OP informed us of his dealer's $30,000 quote for a new engine and asked "What are my options out there?" And, once again, I replied with the same advice from September 17 - get the dealer to help you. Why put the cart before the horse? Why look for alternatives if Axiom hasn't denied your claim? Focus on getting the dealer's help.

Way back in the day, during officer training , my instructors pounded this into my head: "If the student failed to learn, the teacher failed to teach." That's why some candidates washed out; they were incapable of learning. So be it with the OP. I did my best to show him the way, but he wasn't able to open his eyes to see the light.

I realize that I am .
I have no other advice, so I'm done here.

Good luck to the OP and I hope that Axiom covers his claim.

All will be obvious once Axiom gives him the verdict either way, then proper targeted advice can be given. Everything right now is white noise, from us and him. Speculation based on which way it goes.

I can understand not having heard back from the OP for some time, but when he resurfaced with an update yesterday I think those of us who asked or suggested talking about this with the dealer and reviewing the terms of the “warranty” contract were expecting some sort of reference to those suggestions. But there were none and the OP’s update shed little light on what assistance would be provided to him, not really any acknowledgment of the helpful advice previously provided by us. In fact the post asked for additional help with getting a less costly engine replacement as if neither dealer nor the warranty company were willing to assist.

I haven't been part of this thread or this forum for very long. Two surprises for me:

1. The 5.0L seems to be made of chocolate, and I've learned from local sources this is kind of widely known. The 4.2 is apparently known for being a "strong" engine. I always hankered after the 5.0 engine but preferred the styling of the 4.2. Really feel for the OP


2. People actually being surprised that they take the trouble to give information only to be ignored. Whilst its ignorant and annoying it does appear to happen with some frequency

There should be some sort of a FU button for those occasions

Hey Airborne,
Hang in there!
- The 5.0L is not rebuildable, in the conventional sense (see my previous post, above).
- Assumedly, the $25K is a new JLR engine; $5K is about right for R&R
- Third party warranty company will probably push toward a used engine (suggest do NOT accept a "rebuilt")
- If you're contractually covered, best solution is new engine
- The Jag dealer estimate ($30K) essentially totals the vehicle, which makes for an interesting service contract dilemma
- Suggest you assemble your purchase documents (ad for vehicle proclaiming "warranty", sales contract, service contract, etc and have friendly "united effort" chat with dealer)
- Not sure if you financed the purchase through the dealer; if so, this might also work in your favor (contracted restoration of collateral)
- Very best wishes to you for a good outcome; please keep us posted as to how this proceeds...

Wow, you guys are very testy today!!! Clearly he is very freaked out about the situation and is worrying about the worst case, personally if it was me I wouldn't have even posted anything until the adjuster had reported the findings and Axiom had rendered a decision. I am not a knee jerk kinda emotional person, yeah I would be upset about buying a used car that failed, but I always know that any used car has potential for disaster.

He stated in his first line that he had the car a few months and a few thousand miles so it is clearly within the Axiom period, so it is all up to Axiom and how well they back up the warranty. Since we don't have the exclusions and he didn't answer that part we won't know, besides Axiom adjuster will come up with their own determination on the root cause of the failure which will then depend on exclusions.

If Axiom denies then involve the dealer, lawyer, arbitrator, or all.

If they allow the claim then how much will they allow, most will spec out a remanufactured engine and you don't have much say in that.

It is a process and the process is not finished, hence all white noise.

Nah, I think it is more like a serialized story with a cliffhanger....we are just too impatient and want to know what’s going on especially after pertinent questions were left unanswered.

And yes, if available, a remanufactured engine likely. And as mentioned before, Just be certain it is indeed to full Jaguar spec and not lacking anything such as seals/gaskets, water pump, spark plugs, hoses, etc.

My point about writing Jag is simply this: they have licensed dealers selling 3rd party warranties . Then not backing it up. Tarnishes Jag in my mind.

Undoubtedly the OP is stressed. I’m giving him some slack as I have been through this too.

Damn, I didn't think I would be lambasted for my questions and statements. YES, I am stressed about this and no, I don't have all of the answers to questions. I like to plan ahead for contingencies. As the "OP", I posted on 9-17, then updated on 9-22. For those of you that get upset because I'm not responding according to your timeline, I am not on here minute by minute, or day to day, so maybe a little slack? I spent 30k that took me quite some time to save up for and this whole thing is bad enough without the negative responses. I threw out the info I had and am waiting for a response from Axiom to see what will happen next. I heard you when stating contact dealer and that is exactly what I will do next if I have an issue with Axiom. All of you that responded positively, thank you! Btw, I'm not a horse. I will update soon as I hear more info.

Airbornecat - don't sweat it. This place can indeed get testy.
My opinion - there's some posturing going on about how to deal with this that you're not privy to. I honestly don't think its about wiggling out of their obligation (assuming your numbers are correct re how long you've had it and how many miles you've driven).
One thing I'd do: call your own insurance company - not to get them involved, but explain what's going on and just straight-up ask them, if you actually HAD totaled it, how much would they pay out on it?
Because for you, this is about your car. For the warranty company, it's just numbers. I wonder if they have the ability to "total" the car and simply write you a check for that amount, which would probably be less than $30K. They'd have the additional benefit of then owning the car and any residual value it has. And, honestly, there is a question of the logic of a $30K repair for a car you bought for 28.
Also I'd check if "oil change" is specifically on the Carfax or whatever from when you took possession of the car. Then the fight might be raging about not whether you're going to be made whole, but who's going to do it.
