engine light / sputtering
Hello Everyone;
I was driving home yesterday in traffic and accelerated slowly and the engine kind of sputtered then accelerated. I did not think anything about it until I got home an noticed that the engine light was on. I let then engine cool and checked the oil and it was OK. I did not see any fluid leaks. Any ideas? Can I drive it to my mechanic to have it checked out or do I need to tow it to the mechanic?
What happens to then engine if it heats up?
Thanks
Joe

Not sure about the 5.0, but on the 4.2, I'd be looking at the gasket on top of the throttle body. If that thing is cracked, seated wrong, or otherwise leaking, it will act like it has a problem with the MAF sensor. I went through this when I reassembled after the valley hose replacement. Seems like you have to disassemble it that far to access the MAF anyway.

Took it to my Jag mechanic and it was the MAF sensors. Went ahead and replaced both sensors and air filters. I changed the brake fluid too. Now for some questions: I have 42K miles on my 2013 xkr.
1. When should you change spark plugs?
2. When should you change transmission fluid?
Thanks

I drove the car home from the mechanic shop and parked it for a week. Then engine light was off. The first time I fired the engine up again, the engine light came on again. Read the code P0101. Mass air flow sensors or whatever. So I drove the car several times during the week with the engine light on. I parked the car again for several more days. When I fired up the engine again, the light was off. Never ending engine light saga.

Codes are set when a sensor reading is out-of-range. This can be due to an actual component fault (as would appear originally to have been the case with your MAF sensor) or frequently because the vehicle battery is partially discharged. Do you keep the vehicle on a battery tender when parked up for a week or more?
