Entertainment console issue
Hi,
I recently bought a 2010 xkr 5.0. I'm having an issue where the entertainment/climate control console keeps randomly turning off and then back on again when driving. Any ideas what this could be down to? I'm seeing some suggestions it is a battery issue or some have said possibly a software issue?
Any ideas?

Whenever there's an electrical problem, the first thing to check is the battery. You're in GB, where cold winter temperatures adversely affect car batteries. If you don't drive your XKR every day for at least 20 miles, the alternator may not bring the battery up to a full charge. In such case, you should get a CTEK or similar battery maintainer to keep your battery fully charged.
Electrical gremlins are random, but the touchscreen is usually the first thing that goes haywire.
Have your battery load tested before you do anything else.
Good Luck!

My tracker always sends me an alert when the battery's running low, tested the battery physically a couple of times with a multi-meter which was giving the exact same reading, so now don't bother to test the battery and rely on the tracker to alert me
If I ignore the warning I get touchscreen issues such as climate not being displayed or heated seat/wheel icons not showing, an overnight charge on a CTEK always puts things right. Appreciate here that I have the additional drain of the tracker and a dashcam
Gurpal, if your'e in the UK the cheapest good quality battery available is a Bosch S5
£122 delivered here:
https://batteryfactory.co.uk/product...YaAp5EEALw_wcB
A main dealer will charge you at least double that figure, naturally check it's the right one for your car before ordering.
A battery, even if maintained on charge regularly will only last 5-6yrs (although have had some last longer) so your 2010 should now have seen two new batteries installed in its life. As you're a new owner you've no idea of the history of it, so I'd suggest you change it ASAP.

If you install a new battery or have someone else do it for you, know that just because it's a brand new battery doesn't mean that it's fully charged. New batteries can sit on retailers' shelves for months, slowly discharging. Sure, the dealer will always tell you it's fully charged. But ...
That's why I suggested buying a battery maintainer that can automatically keep your battery fully charged without overcharging it. Jaguar uses the CTEK brand as their factory-authorized accessory, and they're available for less without the Leaper logo on Amazon and other retailers. Search this Forum for threads on installation tips and models.

Agreed Stu, had one delivered for my Peugeot in Dec (also a Bosch with a 5yr guarantee), when it came I connected it up to my CTEK and it was only reading 3 lights, a 15hr charge saw it come up to the full 7.
TBH changing the Jags battery is a heck of a lot easier than on my Peugeot with stop/start, that had SO many electrical connections it was scary!!
The X150 is pretty easy, the only difficult bit is hefting that 22kg in and out, so if attempting yourself and your over 5'8" would recommend doing some stretches and wearing a weightlifting belt....or else just pay a mobile mech to come and do it for you....mine charges (see what I did there?) just £15 for a battery change.

If you answered "No" to any of the above questions, your conclusion is flawed and your battery may not be "fine". See this thread, particularly Post #3:

P.S. Your 5.0L 2010 XKR is equipped with the Battery Monitoring System, which has been reported to be faulty. A defective BMS module may be the cause of your problem. See: https://www.dropbox.com/s/bhnz63gte1...0K100.pdf?dl=0

I have a 2013 Xk and had the same problems. I took mine to the dealership while under warranty and they reprogrammed it. About 6 months later the factory warranty had expired and it started that again and then stopped coming on. I took it back after the warrant was up and they informed me the touch screen was bad and needed to be replaced.

So the battery was indeed low. Replaced the battery. No other issues and memory seems to have been unaffected on vehicle and running fine. Issue where console intermittently switches on and off remains! Before you ask, the battery charge was good to start with (12.6). Leaves me with software issue or fault with console itself?

Update
Taken to jaguar for diagnostics. Mechanics said the 'brain' of the infotainment system is faulty. Says the infotainment computer module needs to be replaced? Make sense to anyone? I don't seem to be able to find a part going by that description. The closest description to this I can see is the media module unit?

Yes, the information and entertainment module (ICM) is probably what they mean and it's located under the touchscreen and sits on top of the CD player (IAM). It's a gateway between the Can bus and MOST bus.

How handy are you? If you don't have the necessary software, buy an optical fiber bypass loop and use it to take all the components in the loop out one at a time to see if your flickering goes away. If it doesn't, the you need a new screen likely. If you have the center console pulled back, you already have access to two of the FO connectors. The rest are in the trunk stack I think.
This one will work just fine.
Depending on features, you're going to have the ICM, IAM, the touchscreen display (leave alone obviously) behind the center console. Then you should have the portable audio interface which is (center console under armrest?), then the rest are in the trunk - Nav module, Sdars module if you have it, phone module, DAB tuner if you have it. All in a stack along side the battery.

Related to @Sean W comments. I have had this issue when the bluetooth module gave up the ghost. Of course there were codes thrown that simplified the fix process as opposed to arbitrarily pull and replace everything you see.
Was the module replaced by and at the dealer? If it was I think you have a credit coming for the “real” repair. I get 1 year parts and labour on anything done at the dealer. Or... you are on your own and it could get pricey...

Solved
Sorry guys just realised never got back about this but in the end it was the DAB unit which was faulty!!! Replaced this and problem was solved :-). Sorry took a while to get back. Essentially it was simple to realise...running through the sources on the unit we found the DAB didn't work properly, it would never tune or fire up when we switched to it. So thought let's replace that so we can get the DAB to work at least. In the end it solved the entire problem haha!
