Error Codes P0108 / P0069

So...I was able to replace all the hoses on the front of the motor as well as the water pump and associated parts (like the thermostat). Had to remove the intake manifold in the process.
As expected I am sure I put it all back together wrong. Why? Because I now have a CEL (check engine light) for a vacuum leak. Specially, I have the two codes mentioned in the title.
Now, the question to this group is...how on earth do you track down a vacuum leak if you don't have a smoke machine? I should note I do hear an air escaping/hissing on the port side of the motor (that's the UK/Japanese/Australian driver's side.) Am wondering if I didn't make the connection properly on that side.
Any high-probability things to check? I don't really want to hand this off to a shop just yet, but I am wanting to drive it...

Spray some starting fluid or brake cleaner at specific areas a bit at a time. If the engine speeds up when sprayed, that's because there's a vacuum leak at that area because the leak is slightly blocked and the flammable spray got sucked in and burned as fuel.
The hard plastic lines going around and near the oil filter housing are horribly brittle and break easily. ALSO, ensure the intake tubes sealed properly to the "T" and to the throttle body.
